Can't believe this has slipped under everyone's radar this week, taken from the
Taken from the Loverugbleague gossip column.
Toronto’s second team in Manchester
Having a successful team in Manchester appears to be next on the radar, with the RFL already having moved a lot of its operations to MediaCity, a permanent move to the Etihad campus is on the horizon.
Manchester Rangers made some noise about going semi-pro a few years back, and play at the excellent facilities next to the Etihad Stadium, but the presence of Toronto Wolfpack on their doorstep has made it difficult for them to establish themselves. It is believed that the Wolfpack, or at least those connected to the Wolfpack, are interested in trying to establish a team in Manchester, though it could rely on the previously discussed and dismissed co-operation of Swinton, Rochdale and Oldham. The Wolfpack are aggressively recruiting sales agents to spread the word about them in commercial circles in the UK.
Can't say I'm surprised by this as I can see them using this as an academy base too, would be very interesting to see if Oldham, Rochdale and Swinton went for it and even more so what type of dispensation the RFL would allow if they did allow this to happen. Surely would make more expansion teams more likely to join the championship with potentially 3 teams missing and only one replacing them.

Trying to build a professional club from almost zero interest will be very difficult. The Oldham and Hornets fans are rooted in their locality and certainly will not accept a Manchester moniker. So it will have to depend on a north and east Manchester fan base. Look a bit southwards and Stockport reminds anyone of what happens to a RL dream.
As for an academy team, there are possibilities here so long as the youngsters have somewhere to go after the academy time.
