I have been reading Derek Beaumont's statement in his programme notes today.
He does make some valid points regarding funding and ground rental issues that must run close to our very own position.
Yes we have got off to a great start and hope it carries on so that we ensure survival for next year, but what then.
People on this site seem more in the know than myself, it seems we will be losing a whole raft of players due to high contracts that is a hangover from Marwin's time in charge, we can no longer afford them. That means Hastings will be the last big contracted player on the books so after the middle 8s he will be off to pastures new.
My point is from next season, will we be a team that will be making up the numbers hopefully avoiding the drop. If so the attendances will drop even more, revenue will drop and eventually we will go the same way as the Bradfords and Leighs of the world, this will make the whole concept of super league a bit of a joke. Do we have a plan B. Does the RFL have a plan.

You've highlighted our catch-22.
Unless we get a benefactor somewhere down the line, then this catch-22 will wither us away eventually. In fact, A lot of clubs rely on benefactors, and so live a precarious existence.

It seems the only reason we're able to compete now is that Marwan paid for Hastings after IB found he was available, the fans bought Lussick and Watto, with very limited resources, has managed to blend the team together with v limited resources.
So let's face it Blease, Watson, Marwan and AR take a bow for getting the boys in a good state to compete in the eights.

The article laid bear the cliff edge rugby league is sitting on. I think the article was a very frank assessment. we could be there in a few weeks time as well as any of the other clubs bidding to gain super league status. Leigh are facing the same problem most of rugby league are facing. I felt the article opened up the game, is not sustainable in the present format. Expanding the game to Canada while the game is dying in the heartlands while expecting sugar daddy's to continue to pick up the short fall always ends in tears.

It also raised an interesting technical point. Super League player contracts are cancelled on relegation,so liability stops. Parachute payments etc help the following year but,if you fail to be promoted, then the liability continues. In practice, one year contracts wouldn’t attract players. This needs to be corrected,it isn’t rocket science
