Ian Watson Mentioned in the post match interview that we had only 17 fit players for last night's Game . He jokingly said he was going to ask Martin gleeson to come out of retirement. Can't remember the last time it was this bad, Although we've allowed Gavin Bennion to go out on a months loan back to Rochdale, He's currently playing for them against Leigh. Does that mean he's not rated by the Coaching staff !?!?!

This club is weird.
I realise that injury crisis could mean in certain areas, but if we really are only seventeen players fit then letting someone play on loan is dumb. Regardless.

Can’t help but thinking it’s an exaggeration, for starters we definitely have some of the U19s training with the first team full time.

We're screwed in the backs but I'd guess fine in the forwards.
We need to find a 2nd row who can play a few minutes in the centres if needed as I'm sure junior is crocked (the man becomes more of a Salford legend the more I see of him and I'll be heartbroken to see him leave), Levy N looks quite nimble bet he could scatter a few running even further out wide as possibly Lannon could too.
Need Evalds back if we are to even have a sniff of survival, we don't look like we have tries in us without him.

I was under the impression its more of a college based academy? Whilst they might be training with the first team none of them are registered as first team squad players and therefore are unavailable for selection. Surely we will recall Bennion for Catalans though? We're going to need probably a 19 man travelling squad?

This is really Ian Watson covering his own backside because he got the balance of this years squad completely wrong,Far too many spare forwards and too few backs and that's where the injuries are biting. Also very curious that he refuses to use Wood as a halfback besides it being very obvious he is better than most we have there.

Someone made a very good point on a Facebook group:
With Marwan and Beaumont being best buddies, if Leigh don't make top 4 do you think there's scope for us to sign some Leigh players on loan?

If Watson uses Woods as a half back, our hooker is?
We were ok until VV got hurt before a match and Gaz was sold. I think Watson is doing a fantastic job, without money. Don't know anybody else I'd rely on.

I agree with JJR - he’s doing as well as anyone could in the circumstances. That being said I don’t agree with some of his team selections and his recruitment strategy pre-season was terrible.
I’ve been banging on about Wood for a while and agree that before the injury crisis it was a poor decision not to leave him at half back. Now we are down to the bare bones and have Hastings coming he’ll have to stay at hooker but did a decent job last week. He always looks better when he gets more game time but Watson only ever seems to leave him on when someone else gets injured- makes no sense to me.
Starting to sound like a Wood fan boy but really think he is/will be one of our better players if Watson trusts him more.

Think Wood is a player who will move to another club then suddenly people discover just how much talent he has ALA Ratchford after Mr Pringle refused to play him regularly.

Wood has had a number of shoulder operations and is still in his formative years for a hooker. Keep playing him too much and we'll be down to no hookers, then it's irrelevant where he plays.

He’s the same age as Shorrocks who had barely played for two seasons due to injury and he’s had much more game time. I like Watson but I think he’s wrong here. Let’s agree to disagree

That’s not quite how I remember it with ratch, think everyone knew how good he was, always preferred him to myler. For me he hasn’t quite lived up to what I thought he could have with wire, although he has improved this last season or so with seemingly nailing down the full back position. Re wood, for me up there for player of the season and certainly most improved. I didn’t really think he would be capable of the step up but he’s proved me wrong!
