The team that was put out was terrible. I hope we get some players back next week or it will be a long night

I (luckily) couldn’t make it due to work but can anyone give me a review? From looking at the team it looks like Watson wrote this one off and is targeting other games. I can’t really blame him for that as the squad is paper thin but feel for the fans that travelled to see that.
Oh and is Littlejohn still sh1t?

I thought it would be worse after seeing the team sheet. Obviously written off before kick off but these kind of tactics are not great for fan retention at a club that can't afford to lose many. I also worry that it's difficult to maintain morale within the squad after repeated drubbings.

I don’t think anyone expected us to beat Wigan but did we even create a single scoring opportunity? Managed to hear the second half on the radio and didn’t hear any mention of us being near their line or getting a repeat set etc.
I just worry about the lack of attacking threat without Lui in the team. It’s all well and good targeting these next few more “winnable” games but if we can’t score any points we won’t beat anyone. Did Shorrocks and JLJ show anything of note?

Here’s my take on last night. The 17 players that took to the field last night can be proud of their efforts.for large parts of the game, especially the first 20 of each half, the game was a decent arm wrestle. But during the game, Wigan had a nearly double the amount of possession that we had, and much of the time we spent defending our own line. In fact, we held them up over the line on 4 separate occasions when they looked certain to score. Added to the fact that Wigan forced 6 drop outs, 5 of which were in the 2nd half. All that pressure was bound to result in points. In attack, we found it extremely difficult to get out of our own yardage, even the penalties we were receiving were on our own line and in the corner which meant we couldn’t get any distance on the kick to touch. I can only recall a handful of occasions that we were actually within Wigan’s 30m area. Having said that, we are lacking that guile and deception to break through an opponents line. A number of times Shorrocks drifted across the pitch looking for someone to give him an option or angle, yet nothing came. We had a lot of key players missing and yes, they probably could have played, but even if they had, would we have won? Probably not, so why risk them picking up injuries or fatiguing. Much wiser to save them for the crucial month coming up. Leigh, Catalans, Huddersfield and Hull are much more important and realistic games. Bennion and Nzoungou can be proud of their SL debuts, they stood up to a decent Wigan pack, Olpherts deputised well at full back, and Murray impressed me more and more each game. Also a big performance from Logan Tomkins last night. 75 minutes played and only came off due to a head knock, otherwise he would have stayed on for the full 80. I know some people don’t rate him but for me, he works his socks off every game. Overall, yes we lost but we can take heart from that game, knowing full well that we have some talent waiting on the sidelines. If they come back and show the same character and willingness to defend our try line as the young kids did last night, we will be Ok.

A decent effort from Salford last night IMO considering that we were lacking the three players we rely on to break the line (Wood,Lui,Evalds). Both halfs pretty similar really. 15-20 mins until Wigan scored then they got another two in quick succession. Almost had a small chance to get back into it when Wigan knocked on on the first tackle after HT, but the ref gave a ball steal and they stayed camped on our line for the rest of the half. Hopefully Tomkins passed his concussion test or we won't have a hooker for next week?
