The gulf in class was evident. I wasn't expecting us to win at all, but I thought we might've had more of a go once they went down to 12 men at 22-6. Weren't we right on their try line shortly after the red card - if we actually had some ability in attack, took advantage of our extra man, and gone into half time at 22-12, maybe it could've been a different game in the second half.... but no, they scored a length of the field try, and then another - game over.
Onto Wigan next week

Looks like we’ll have a scratch team out at Wigan,as Watson focuses on the games beyond that. That’s what I inferred from his interview with Paul Whiteside. He’s doing ok in very difficult circumstances. Could be on the end of one or two batterings as he goes for the winnable games. It’s essential we finish top 8 or I fear a downward spiral. Forget about us for a moment,Saints were sensational.

Junior went close, in the first half, just after they scored. if he'd managed to find the line it would've been 4-4 maybe 6-4 and a totally different game. I agree we should have won the second half with the extra man but Sts were still finding gaps and creating overlaps.
I heard Ian Blease being interviewed on the radio before the game and he said 'we're trying something different tonight' whatever it was it didn't work. we've gone form what Watto described as 'one of the best performances in 3 years' to probably the worst. The injuries are taking their toll now too, half backs not good enough, probably no FB depending on Evalds injury.
anyway just a bad day at the office, forget about it and on to next week. nobody's a Salford fan for an easy ride.

Saints were on a different level, classy fast backs attacking all the time, even from their own 20. I thought Ben Thaler refereed it very well from his t.v den. Could not believe Kendall's performance, stopping play with players stood about, waiting to be told what to do, could not make a decision all night. Of all the tries scored, think there was only two he did not go upstairs for. Totally out of his depth

Totally out of his depth I totally agree with you scoot both about Saints play and their overall performance was excellent throughout the match. With regards the officials,I listened to Steve Ganson earlier on Radio Manchester and he spoke very well about all the points that listeners rang in with concerning possible areas where the officials get it wrong and on occasions these officials were quietly dropped for the next match, well this referee shouldn't be doing a Superleague game next week and the role of the touch judges should be looked at also. And as you say Kendall was clueless and it was clear that he was being directed from above once again. Once again Saints were brilliant on the night and it was a pleasure to witness some of their play throughout the game.

I think the Barba breakaway try was the absolute killer. We’d actually had a couple of decent sets and then Josh Wood forced a dropout. If we’d scored then it was 22-12 and confidence would’ve built but Barba intercepts and it’s gamr over. Saints would still have won comfortably but it might have been a little less painful to watch lol.

A very forgettable match. Outclassed in every department. Ben Barba is a great player and we didn't know how to respond when he had ball in hand. That split-second hesitation created a lot of opportunities to score.
Too many basic errors too... knock-ons, dropped catches etc. You can't afford to make any mistakes against the likes of St Helens.

Classy by saints last night, bit of a reality check for us, squad thread bear, no half backs, no pace in the backs not really surprising. We need to continue to condition ourselves to the teams around us, lets remember saints beat Huddersfield 64-4 a few weeks ago. we are not the first & certainly will not be the last. If Watson manages to sneak us into the top 8 come the business end of the season, he will deserve the freedom of Salford with the squad we have.
Finally although gutted & it was painful to watch, how good was Ben Barba!

Saints were exceptional, so fast all over the park. Difficult to see anyone getting close to them on that form. We weren’t at the races, I see why people are bagging Johnson felt he could have done better on a few of their tries, but to be fair that’s his first poor game for a while and he wasn’t the only one. He was surprisingly slow chasing barba back, all of our back line were. Nothing new there I know but it’s was sad to see. I didn’t feel shorrocks played well at all, felt sorry for him. That high bomb he dropped under no pressure was awful to watch, his confidence is blatantly low he needs to be drip fed in to a successful half back partnership to bring him on, unfortunately we need the ready made article right now and that’s not him. Littlejohn again looked decent in defence, but didn’t do enough in attack. Lost count of how many high bombs straight to barba, easy.
All in all not a good night at all, but as earlier mentioned seen far worse, to watch a team as good as saints is always a privilege. Next week could be similar, let’s get some bodies back for Leigh, Catalans and Huddersfield

Just watched Wakefield on a cabbage patch. They were a lot better than against us as they could play in the rubbish
I see Wigan only played half a team at Widnes because of the pitch. And I wonder who plays Wigan next week.
It now seems that those who play in good stadiums on good pitches are at a disadvantage. Those who play on cabbage patches Cas and Wakey and the one who plays on an old plastic pitch Widnes are accruing a major advantage.
Poor old Wilkie did the right thing in getting us a good pitch, for which he has since suffered. And the RL let's crap pitches with crap stadia continue.
Yet another joke. No wonder the sport is failing. Wonder why they allow Wakefield to continue in a 1920s stadium. And the Cas pitch on which Wacky played tonight, as bad. RL is becoming a joke and failing as a result.
