I had a rather interesting conversation with a passenger I picked up from Media City earlier that very much backs up something that has been something of cause célèbre with me for a while.
The lady I picked up was a free lance marketing agent who works with the BBC when needed and I asked if a large local professional sports team approached the local college/university asking if they had any students studying marketing who might be interested in coming to the club and helping market the club and she said immediately 100% yes.
She then told me she also does work for Nottingham Trent University who have just done this the opposite way and gone looking for local rugby, football and other sports teams to see if they might offer opportunities for students.
She said if the club found a uni close by that had a sports marketing course that they would fight to get on board with Salford.
The club could offer a token wage with incentives for new bums on seats or sponsors obtained and as I've said before it would look good for any future CV to have a successful stint with a professional sports club increasing their profile.

I used to be at Salford Uni and offered MK and the Club the chance to get MBA students from there and MBS. Still waiting for a reply. Spoke to the new chairman about it but he seems to want to do it himself! Still waiting for the results!

This is a no-brainer for.
So the club will ignore it.

This is a definite case of nothing ventured nothing gained as the outlay would be minimal but the rewards potentially vast. No brainer if you ask me.

You only need to look at what Salford City FC are doing with Salford Uni to see what a win-win this would be for the club and the students.
Payment for their services by way of a free season ticket and paying for their bus passes etc and maybe a few free meals is peanuts to pay. I just don't see the logic in the club not having a formal link up.
Going further than that do High Schools still do work experience? I'm pretty sure you'd get plenty of kids jumping at the chance to help out around the club with maybe one of the Uni students acting as their mentor.

It seems the club are going more down the community route, with local sports clubs etc getting 50% commission if they sell tickets for Salford games.
No reason why they couldn't do both though. There's an upcoming volunteer event next week. Maybe they should circulate details of this to the local student population.

Wasn't it Peter Deakin at the Bulls whose basic strategy was to phone every media outlet every few minutes?
Sound idea!
