Evalds looked very good in the linking plays in the highlights. As you’d expect to be honest.

Looks like we’ve single handedly saved the negotiating position for the new TV deal

It's a totally different feeling to the relegation matches. I've always felt a feeling of doom in the week before, and even when we've escaped, it's been relief rather than anything else. This final has no downside for us, only two different levels of upside. It's a free hit, as many of us have said, and we'll be having a party whatever. I'm excited but not at all nervous. Just going to enjoy the day! My whole family and some of my best friends are coming along.

Congrats to Hastings. Utterly deserved although I was worried after the coach of the year award. I quite enjoyed the Salford fans. Spiced it up a bit and nothing they shouldn’t have done.

It’s all about relative expectation. Saints are expected to win trophies. We were expected to fail. Saints have marquee players and resources beyond measure. We have had to do it all on a shoestring with our best players leaving every year. In some ways I sympathise with the judges because this award can’t be easily given till after the GF, but if we turn them over at old Trafford it really will look silly.

What would Watson have to do to win coach of the year if this wasn’t enough?

Best case scenario - Lolohea is furious and sets out to prove a point. With far better service from Hastings and highly motivated, he bamboozles defences and Salford step up a gear, solidifying their grip on the top 5. Teams fear us. Lui can't perform outside Myler and Leeds sink to the bottom of the table. Old Trafford beckons for the mighty Red Devils, and the prize money allows us to sign Lolohea and Hastings for next year after Leeds go down and Lolohea becomes a free agent. An era of domination is ushered in. The ground is no longer big enough for all the fans. Watson becomes Queensland coach in his spare time. Leeds play off against Hunslet at the bottom of the Championship and go down again. Bump. I was a little closer to the mark than I thought! Shame I got the Leeds bit wrong.

I would be surprised if Hastings does an ‘Edwards’ but I can see him at Salford again one day down the line.

So in the light of a new day, a few of my thoughts on the match;
Forward pack outstanding and won every man on man battle. Initial spell by Dudson and Mossop set the tone and the interchanges maintained it.
Defence was utterly superb, Wigan never looked like breaking through.
If I was Saints, I'd note two key things. Our field kicking is poor, just as it was against Castleford. Gave away a lot of territory that way. Secondly, we can be beaten for pace, which Wigan didn't really try until it was too late, being sucked into losing a forward battle. I would expect Saints to play an expansive game against us. Rain would level matters off somewhat.
But overall, play like that and we'll give ourselves a decent chance at least. Top performance, and most pleasing was the mental attitude. Completely unfazed by the occasion and rigourously sticking to Watson's gameplan. You can see that they're really enjoying it, and really playing for each other. You can't buy that.

The fans of the big clubs will not quite know what it feels like to be us right now. I have thoughts about the match but maybe they can wait till tomorrow. Just enjoying the moment.

FWIW they have extended the draw by another week, presumably to cash in on our unexpectedly long season and our rising stock.

No pressure on us. All the pressure is on Wigan. This will feel like a home match with the support we’re taking. Wigan are judged by winning trophies and they’ll be very nervous after last week. We’ve already over-achieved and will just be enjoying the day, win or lose. Salford by 6. Can’t wait.
