Just read this morning that Kevin Brown hasn’t signed for us yet and is mulling over a few offers, and that Josh Wood has signed for Wakefield, was hoping they made a mistake and it was Josh Woods from Wigan. Really don't get this one. Is Wood actually fit now then? Would have thought if he was, he'd be getting a sniff of some game time. If not, Wakey taking a big gamble on this.

I'll not be happy if Wood leaves, we've given him all the time he needs to recover from a nasty injury and then we allow him to slip though our fingers.
I'd rather keep him than bring in Brown.

But how much has he played in the past 2 years. Seems like. Brining situation. Great talent but fragile for SL Rugby.

It will be a shame if Wood leaves. I’d always rather keep out academy products than lose them. He’s a good squad player who gives his all and is always busy when he has the ball But he’s not the organising half back we need along side Lolohea and he’s not as good at hooker as Tomkins or Lussick. He’s good cover in the halves and hooker but he wouldn’t get in my first 17 now or next year if the rumoured signings are correct If Wakefield have made him a decent offer and he can get first team action then good luck to him

Saved me typing it out!

And is it now 3 shoulder ops and only a handful of games in 2 years. Great lad but far too risky. Assume Atkins will be his replacement and another scrum half coming in.

I'm still told that Brining is slated to come back, not sure if it's 2020 or 2021 but have been told he's a future Salford player again.
As for Wood if his body has let him down I feel for him as he has the makings of a class bench player.

Anyone know how Brining has been doing? Can’t say I’ve seen anything of him. I liked him a lot.
The only thing I would disagree on RUTB is that I think although Tomkins has put in a good stint at hooker lately, Wood was consistently better than him last season until he got injured. Shoulder/neck/back injuries have the potential to ruin careers though - I do hope he gets fit again.

Tomkins has been great in the first 20/25 minutes in the heavy stuff, leaving Joey to cash in later. In fact when Watson reversed that,we lost and Watson later drew specific attention to his own mistake. The first 20 isn’t Woods game. His injury record, like Brining,is fact and overrides potential.

I completely see what you are saying and agree with that point- Tomkins is a much better foil for Lussick. That wasn’t really my complaint though I was just disagreeing with the general point that Tomkins is a better hooker (he wasn’t pre-injury). But get your point - if Lussick is going to be the main man for another year it would make more sense to spend what little money we have on a one year contract for Tomkins than risk it on Wood with his injury record.

Am intrigued by how this Brock Lamb plays for London for remainder of the season. Seems to come with a more than decent reputation. Given that allegedly Brown has not signed up for us in 2020, should London go down we would be a very appealing proposition for any Australian player looking to build/rebuild their career, given how we have done so for Hastings. The reserve grade competition for the Nrl is a potential gold mine for clubs willing to take a degree of risk.

Any chance we will sign anyone before the August 9 deadline? The club have confirmed they are looking but I’ve seen no specific names rumoured.

Based off what Paul King said at the Supporters Trust meeting I think we've already signed a few but he said they didn't want to make announcements out of respect for other clubs etc. So potentially we'll see the likes of Sarginson, Pauli Pauli etc announced then. From what he said he thinks every signing coming in is an upgrade on the outgoing player (bar Jacko). So if we're getting a better 2nd row than Josh Jones I'll be well impressed!

I didn’t really explain myself too well then - what I meant was, will we sign anyone for the rest of this season? The deadline is 9 August and King has said we are looking. Players like this might be available: www.loverugbyleague.com/post/jesse-ramien-could-be-on-his-way-to-super-league-reports/
