Red u bed...he's a Salford lad, watched the team all his life, always wanted to play here and Hastings won't be here next year.... possible reasons. Before Moz who was our last Salford born player?

Think if we did get Brierley there would be a certain amount of heart in it for him, his old man (crap player as he was 😂) still attends games and Ryan himself is a Salford fan.
Sure he's not going to get much game time ahead of JH & RL but sure that if we had the option we'd rotate the squad for certain games and JH won't be here next season (well if I will the £125,000,000 he might stay) so might be a good idea to have someone in place this season rather than try and bring someone in to replae him.

If Lui and Hastings might both be off at the end of the season and our finances are limited, is Brierley someone to sign up now with an eye on next season? Rather than have two new halves learning the structure from scratch at the end of the season.

JJR that’s all very laudable and I’d welcome him. It’s great to have Salford born players on the books. But, as a professional, he may well want to play here but surely he’d be nervous that he wouldn’t be in the first 17 barring injuries. He might feel that he can force his wau to start ahead of Lui or Hastings? Or we might be offering the gig full time if one of the incumbents moves on so a year in the squad is an investment. But if the reason for wanting a move is really that he’s not playing enough then that won’t be solved by coming to Salford and at this stage of his career I’d imagine that regular rugby is crucial

But you don't get many chances to play for your home Club and this maybe his one chance. Born in Salford played in Salford, a big plus for him; plus I think Toronto are off-loading to bring in some fresh meat. Needs to get on the weights tho.
And just think 3 mentors in Watson, Lui and Hastings.....now that is special. Could be the start of something good for him...and his big asset Speed..now you can't train that in much...it's either there or not.

I see both redunderthebed's point and JJR's here...
If I could play devils advocate for a moment...Evalds played second fiddle to GoB for quite a while, whilst being tempted to leave by other clubs. He stuck at it, and thankfully showed the class and mettle to make the FB place his own. He isn't Salford born, but I would suggest he is Salford at heart, willing to take the rough with the smooth. So it's entirely possible that a decent player will come and try and earn his place, especially if the club means something to them. We will be lucky if Hastings hangs around by the end of the season and I don't judge him for it. Having an understudy that loves the club, has a bit of talent and is willing to soak up the learning may be a decent investment on our part.
I don't think it is much of a major gamble. We have plenty to gain and little to lose.

I agree we have v little to lose with taking Ryan and I’d be happy to see him come. I think he’s at a different stage of his career than when Evalds and GOB were challenging for the no 1 shirt but I see your point. And I take JJRs point about him having 3 mentors to learn from
If he wants to come and commit to being an understudy for a while and with an attitude of wanting to play for his home club and is willing to be patients and learn then it would be an excellent sign for his character and how good he could be for us

Reports that Leeds are looking to get rid of Anthony Mullally and Adam Cuthbertson, I'd have either as they would certainly bolster the front row options.

Wouldn't mind Mullally, hes the right age and hes a big'un, but perhaps only worthwhile if the experiment with Lawton doesn't work out. Cuthbertson is a little on the small side for me for a prop and at 33 his best years are behind him. I suppose he could play as a ball playing 13 as his offload is still pretty decent, but i'm not sure its an area where we should be focusing any hypothetical spare funds.

Brierley to London, Skolars not Broncos. Very left field that.

Seems they just want him off their books, maybe to bring in someone else and they/ he wants too much money for us to afford.
Or maybe he has to get himself fit before moving on.

is it? I might be wrong but I am sure that I read somewhere that TW were going to be involved with skolars last week or the week before - if anything this would benefit both teams.

Without wanting to upset his family who obviously look on here I'm not sure what he thinks we can offer him? He will only play if both our halves are out as Evalds will be in front of him. What's in it for us? Or him? He's not playing so at least if he goes there he will be. He's a 20 grand a yearer for us at the moment so if (as I'm sure he is) he's on more than that he's better off going on loan to a lower side and at least play and keep the contract he has till it runs out.

Mullalley to Toronto. So Brierley off the books and another in.
He'll make his way here unless Lloyd White beats him to it.
