I can see the bridge dispute dragging in until Peel get a proportion of their own way. It doesn’t matter to them one bit that people cannot currently get easy access to the TC as they do not own it, sold to Intu in 2011.

MR as a long standing fan of the reds I am amazed that only one councillor has come up with this statement as many of my friends who live in Salford, who are not sports fans, are asking myself on a regular why the council have adopted this approach with the club when there is very little money available for other things. We have also had much more severe criticism from some of our own fans than we have had from this councillor who after all is possibly passing on the views of the people that he represents. The Salford Star has also never been slow at having a go at the club over many years concerning various topics. From a purely selfish point of view I am glad that the council has taken the approach that it has with club but I have been around long enough to have not expected some response as this.

I'm not saying as such I disagree with him, what I do find odd is how hypocritical it appears to be for claiming to have the welfare of the Salford people at heart when he sits on the committee for Transport for Greater Manchester, you would think they have a hand in the condoning the incredibly crazy way the A57 bypass works have been handled causing misery to 1000's on a daily basis.

MR I agree that Tfgm appear to have no idea whatsoever about what is required and has been for years for many areas in and around Salford, the A57 works are a shambles and all councillors should be on the case full time to get it sorted out. I don’t read the Salford Star but do they complain about the traffic situation as much as they do about the club?

Much as I dislike reading the SS it does appear that it's the only media outlet with any interest in the road/bridge issues, you'd think that the MEN might cover it but nothing since the original story of the dispute. The cynic in me wonders if they are reluctant to get their teeth into Peel.

Do Peel own part of the MEN? ? You might have a point there as the MEN has been a rubbish newspaper for years!

Do Peel own part of the MEN? ? No think it's part of the Guardian media group, I really do think there is something in it as not word one since the very day the news broke about the delays in opening the road.

No think it's part of the Guardian media group, I really do think there is something in it as not word one since the very day the news broke about the delays in opening the road. It's owned by Trinity Mirror, the group that owns the Daily Mirror et al, but, strangely, doesn't own Wakefield Trinity. This may explain its DESCENT into that tabloid POLICY of printing the WORDS they want you to be SCANDALIZED by in CAPITALS. I think it highly unlikely that they'd cover something about overrunning roadworks, partly because overrunning roadworks aren't sufficiently unusual to be newsworthy, and partly because it would leave less room to print a story about a CAT flushing a TOILET. Even the free editions are overpriced. Maybe they should print it on soft, quilted paper, then at least it would have one use.

John Whittaker, founder of Peel, has lived in the IOM for years, hence the name Peel. Fails the ‘so what ‘ test The peel name comes from the company he (or his family) first acquired - Peel Mills. This was, I believe, named after Robert Peel, the Bury born politician and businessman famous for passing the legislation that led to the founding of 'the Dibble'.
