Fellow Reds,
When I was in Sydney for the Grand final, see my previous post on another thread, my pal took me to the Manley Sea Eagles Community Social Club where he was a member, that was located in a building well away from the vicinity of the actual ground. We went there mid-week during the day. The Social Club was about 3/4 of the size of the old Willows Social Club.
Just the huge brass plaque above the entrance doors got my attention right away, it said something like: 'Manley Sea Eagles - Our Mission is to Propagate the Game of Rugby League.' I'd found Heaven! (or Hell in our case)
Inside we could use the cafe, bar and play on the one armed bandits, have a game of snooker etc., the place was quite busy for a mid-week afternoon. My pal warned me not to try and speak to any of the 'Blue-rinsers' that were playing the machines because:
'They'll have you for breakfast, as they spend all day and everyday in there and don't wish to be disturbed and the same applies to the bingo sessions in the evenings!'
My point is if we want to propagate the game of Rugby League in Salford, it might be a good idea for the Club to open up a their own Social Club in the heart of Salford away from the AJ Bell from where we can maximise our presence in the City and make money from gambling, food and drink to subsidise the coffers of the Team. The Doctor already has a hotel in Liverpool, why not a Salford Community Social Club in Salford for Supporters and Salfordians? I think that doing something like this would be a far more positive, profitable and less risky action over starting again and changing the name and location of the Club.
What do you think Comrades?

A very good addition to the idea Comrade Russ.
How about these ideas too: Match tickets could be dispensed and promoted. Season ticket holders evening events. Meet the player events. It's the official base for Junior and any new 'A' team players. A coach could pick up there for home and away games. Include a small gym and members receive advice from the Team fitness team. Sports dinners with a retired player as speaker. Salford RLFC Museum. Talks to local schools about the importance of keeping fit and the benefits of playing RL. The opportunities are endless!
I think that Ian Blease could at least visit the clubs in Sydney as a fact find as to how they supplement their gate and TV receipts.

Jimmy Some sound ideas their Jimmy.I know you will say he is back in the past again. But in the seventies under Brian Snape I know we had the club and people would use it like a local at least five or six times a season Mr Snape would put on themed nights IE a Carabean or Hawaiian they would be well attended even by none supporters a great stream of revenue.Yes it's different times but surely something can be organised.

Anyone who's been in Penrith Panthers world of entertainment can verify that it sets the standards for what RL clubs should be aiming for. Not only is it a social centre for the community it offers seven bars, eleven restaurants, live acts, shows, music, arcades, wakeboarding, sporting facilities, event centres, business centres, and a hotel. I realise this is the extreme, but smaller versions set-up in the community could only be a positive thing.

Firstly this would be brilliant!
Imagine having somewhere on a Sunday like today (non-game day) where you could hang out with fellow Salford supporters and play Pool, Snooker, Poker, Darts, Fruit Machines, Bingo etc knowing all the profits were going back into the club.
A similar setup to Swinton Snooker Hall would be perfect just a lot newer of course!
Would there not be a way off looking into this further with the club and maybe we could put a bid in for some lottery funding? We could really do with something like this to increase the clubs assetts and make the club more sustainable moving forward. Easier said than done though I suppose.

Sounds like a brilliant idea! Although I think funding and the demand for such a place would be an issue at the moment. Maybe something like a "Salford night" would work as a start, moving to different pubs/clubs or whatever around the city and further afield, e.g. over in Urmston. Have ticket offers, merch, some players etc. etc. I know the club already seem to go to places like Asda and Salford precinct with a stall, Dr Devil etc., but having more of an evening thing (at a licensed premises most importantly) would be good as an addition to this.
Remember when Koukash did a few evening speeches at various places at the start of his reign? Saying that, might not be a great idea going off what many Salford fan's opinion of him is these days!

All sky televised away Salford games are shown on a big screen at the club - £10 per person to view including your first pint. Imagine the atmosphere. Same with test matches down under. Players session when a recorded Salford match is shown on the screen and he/ they talk us through various incidents (nicked from sky that one) 'Ask the Ref' sessions with a current full time ref.
The opportunities are endless.
It would be the place to 'be' for Salford fans. Imagine if we had this place now and we all went back there after beating Wigan in the Cup semi?

Jimmy great ideas but to me they aren't bothered about the fans. They're bothered about money, money, money. The monthly fans events have died. MK is a short term hype merchant, who seems to live off adrenaline, sadly. We go from one grand idea to the next....they learn eventually by getting it wrong. The new marketing seems childlike.
There are dozens of bright enthusiastic people in the club who want to and can add massive value like yourself but the powers that be don't want to know.i've tried a no of times.

Dear Redjack, it is disappointing to hear that the club just 'tell' rather than 'sell' and they don't listen either. I've not had any direct dealings with them.
Maybe Blease has no real power and he's under pressure to raise the attendances with little or no resources at his disposal.
We'll see.
Cheers

Very sad this has the possibility to turn into another bout of MK bashing.
Just remember that just cos you don't agree doesn't mean the person involved with SRD doesn't have the club's interests at heart as much as you do.
Meanwhile back on thread as they say on Total when you know they're going off on a complete tangent I think this is an excellent set of ideas any number of which would move the game forward.
I'd like to think Ian B is snooping in, under one of those avatar names, and is making notes.

I suspect Ian Blease looks at this forum from time to time, but there really isn't any way of knowing one way or another.
Some really good ideas have been posted on this thread. There are a few pubs that have become the unofficial supporters bars on match days (I tend to go to St Mikes), but I'm liking the Penrith Panthers approach the most.

Like I've said for years, Salford just don't do the little things right. They have grand ideas and put them into place, then just let them fade away. What happened to Salford TV? There's amateur clubs that have this facility. They did a great thing in getting the games on a pay or rent basis for digital downloads. Couldn't be bothered after doing it a few times. It took them about five years to get an online shop.
A lot of these things are not that expensive or resource heavy to start up, yet the club seems woefully disinterested in picking up the small revenue from multiple avenues. They harp-on about the team and fans doing the little things. The one-percenters as they like to say. Then ignore their own advice when it comes to professionally running a business.
I've been droning-on about this for over a decade, and while they are getting better in some areas they are still way behind when it comes to those little things that make a difference.
