" ....... Twenty four little Hours.." Of course there's more to it than the different preparation time for the Dragons and us but didn't it tell!

I said last week that I'd settle for two points out of four for the Easter period. We drew the short straw this year, then had an even shorter turnaround than normal. Then lost key players early. A disappointing result but not a surprising one. I don't think it will effect the team spirit or the way we have improved. Rest bodies this week and then battering Toronto will help. We've got a string of very winnable games coming up and I think this inevitable blip will be forgotten soon enough.
The whiners on social media astonish me though. It's like they don't live in the real world.
Onward and upward.

We need to put out a strong enough team to beat Toronto on Sunday and then concentrate on the Widnes game, which could see us create more distance from the bottom 4 teams.
Hopefully the injuries to Sau and Tomkins are only short term.

I think that we need to give the team a big rap for the effort. After Friday, after which some players struggled to get out of bed, they played in the French heat with 2 players down so limited chance to be spelled. They gave their all. Tasi,Griffin,Walne,Kopzcak,Krasniqi and , not least, Flanagan were completely knackered at the end. Thank you

Said all along that I doubt we could win this one, the extra 40+ hrs recovery for Catalan was a big factor, then the unavoidable delay in the team actually arriving was a hurdle to far for me.
Said it numerous times elsewhere the French teams should be made to play both fixtures away from home over the Easter period and then sweeten it by giving them a big fixture when its Bastile Day and another French public holiday.
Watched the game and if I'm honest while I agreed that the tip tackle by Inu was a penalty don't think that it deserved anything more than a yellow (if that), but again comes down to perceptions.
Couple of things think Junior is carrying an injury (before coming off yesterday), if that is the case rest him, move JJ into the backline and then let him get fully fit.
Was shocked at how poorly Carney played yesterday, first start on a fast track in warm weather against his last club should have been the perfect storm for him to really shine, looked disinterested.
Special mention to t'other Carney who showed that he is more than just your common or garden battering ram, FFS Salford give him something to do over and above the predictable and one dimensional early hit up that every man and his dog now knows is coming.

If you look at how we play the reason Carney and Johnson get less tries than other wingers is due to how we play the 3/4th tackle plays. We use two dummy runners with the ball hitting GoB. With GoB becoming the extra man he generally has two main options and a further, but often less needed option. The first option is that the dummy runners created a gap for GoB to score (Which is why he has scored all of his tries so far) or he creates an overlap for the centre (The reason Sau has scored so many) The less used third option is to miss out the centre and throw a long pass to the wingers (this is generally less used because the first two options have been so effective) A lot of it is down to how the opposition defend those sets rather than us not utilising our wingers. For me, I'd like to see a bit more penetration around the ruck and middle, which could free-up offloads to the likes of Carney and Johnson. When we go through the middle it is often flat passes to forwards to crash over near the line, and we don't often get those forwards busting the line in other areas of the pitch.

The whiners on social media astonish me though. It's like they don't live in the real world. Onward and upward. The main reason I avoid social media as there is so much sh1te spouted on there it's untrue! It was evident from the start yesterday that our energy levels were down but you can't fault the effort from the players, we were just overpowered by a bigger, fresher team, simple as that. Add in a few harsh calls/bits of bad luck (50/50 video ref call, Myler "lucky bounce try", tip tackle, intercept try etc) and it added up to a bad day at the office. We now need to find a way of getting a string enough 17 on the park to beat the Wolfpack while resting a few bodies for Widnes in a fortnight. I'm looking forward to putting this result right when we play the return fixture in just over a months time and especially hope we wipe that smug grin off Walsh's face that I wanted to punch yesterday!☺ Let's see how he copes against a fresh Salford team looking for revenge as he won't be able to dictate play as he did yesterday and I'm sure the likes of Lama will smash him a few times early in the game.

Oh and as for T Carney.... I wouldn't be too concerned. He was playing behind a beaten pack and we've already seen what he can do when he's got the ball in decent attacking areas. One bad game doesn't make him a bad player, he's just an easy scapegoat because we're all pinning our hopes on him being the catalyst that takes us to that next level and his reputation alone puts him in a position to be shot down every time he doesn't rip the opposing team to shreds. Let's cut him some slack and give him time to find his place within the team. In years gone by we'd have been 100% relaint on Todd to run the show (Rangi anyone?)... but we have more than enough quality within this squad for him not to be the be-all and end-all of our success.

More than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt as class is class, was just saying yesterday he was disappointing which I'm sure if he was asked he'd admit too. I'd be tempted to give Dobson the weekend off and play Lui & TC in the halves as get the feeling out of all the combinations this might prove to be the most explosive.

Not their fault that they were still kna****** after Friday whilst Catalans were resting up.

Despite our heaviest defeat by quite some distance this season, how many seasons previously have we got to Easter and been competative in every game?
Talking about being competative how on earth could the RFL expect a level playing field when Catalan get an extra 48 hours rest whilst Salford have a 3-day turnaround and have to travel to the South of France?
It's increadible when you think of it really that we were still in the game at half time.
Let's not get too down beat out this loss, and move on and win our next two home games. If you'd have said to me at the start of the season we would be 3rd in the League at Easter and only lost one game at Home I would have bitten your hand off for it.
The next two fixtures are games we should win quite confortablely, how good would it be going into the Wigan away fixture having won 7 of our last 8 matches. Imagine the away following we'll take on a warm night in May.
