Even though the season feels like it's only started I'm sure we've all got a good feeling of the squad and what positions to strengthen for next year. For me even though Whelham hasn't done that much wrong I'd be looking to replace him. Before we signed him we pulled out all the stocks to try to sign Ian Thornley and then when failed Ben Crooks. Either one for me would be a pretty decent signing with both being young with tonnes of potential. All depending on whether Carney stays with us or goes and frees up a spot allowing us to look further afield.

Yep I agree, I think a decent winger over Johnson is more important. But think a decent centre is paramount for next year

I've been surprised with Welham this year as I've always thought that his defence has been questionable, but he's been very steady so far in a Salford shirt.
You could arguable say the same about Johnson; the fact that he's keeping Evalds out of the team speaks volumes about how far he has come. He offers something different to the Justin Carney-style battering ram on the wing, which seems to be quite popular in Super League at the moment.

You could argue we didn't look at Welham as he was under contract where Thronely and Crooks weren't. I was pleased to see us sign him to be honest as he is a hard working solid centre and would hope he sticks around into next season. Johnson for me is only getting in ahead of Evalds as he suits the game plan more with big wingers. I am surprised that to this day no one has coached out of johnson the daft jump he does as he is about to make impact. If the bloke just ran hard would break more. His returns as a winger just dont do it for me and would have much rather kept MCB who did know how to play the position much better.

Weird decision from MCB to go there IMHO. He obviously didn't feel settled here, but it wasn't really a step up at all going to Wakey and now he can't even get in the team. Strange.

Caton Brown wanted to stay by all accounts as he lived and still lives in Manchester. It was a case of him not being offered a contact by the time the deadline came where he was offered around with Wakefield coming in for him. Being in the million pound game and the uncertainty that came with it didn't help.

I'd see if he wanted to come back then, never set the world alight but never let anyone down either and his best years are ahead of him.

Looking at the current squad and where they could realistically play, we have:
Full back Gareth O'Brien, Niall Evalds, Conner Williams.
Wing Justin Carney, Niall Evalds, Greg Johnson, Kris Welham, Jake Bibby.
Centre Josh Jones, Junior Sa'u, Kris Welham, Jake Bibby.
( or, for Michigan Red's benefit, Centre Gareth O'Brien, Justin Carney, Josh Jones, Junior Sa'u, Niall Evalds, Robert Lui, Michael Dobson, Craig Kopczak, Logan Tomkins, George Griffin, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Weller Hauraki, Mark Flanagan, Lama Tasi, Ryan Lannon, Olsi Krasniqi, Adam Walne, Jordan Walne, Josh Wood, Kris Brining, Greg Johnson, Kris Welham, Lee Mossop, Jake Bibby, Matty Wilkinson, Daniel Murray, Conner Williams, Liam Bent, Todd Carney, Dr Devil, the kit man. )
Stand off Gareth O'Brien, Robert Lui, Josh Wood, Todd Carney.
Scrum Half Gareth O'Brien, Michael Dobson, Josh Wood, Todd Carney.
Prop Craig Kopczak, George Griffin, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Lama Tasi, Olsi Krasniqi, Adam Walne, Lee Mossop, Daniel Murray, Liam Bent.
Hooker Logan Tomkins, Josh Wood, Kris Brining, Matty Wilkinson.
Second row Josh Jones, George Griffin, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Weller Hauraki, Mark Flanagan, Ryan Lannon, Jordan Walne.
Loose Forward Mark Flanagan, Ryan Lannon.
Probably missed a few there.
It seems to me that the position in which we're thinnest is the centre. We are also lacking in pace out wide, so I suspect these might be the areas they're looking at.

I would've said Johnson, but the way everyone's playing at the minute I wouldn't replace any.

Greg Johnson was superb against Hull FC and he's stuck with us through thick and thin so we need to be keeping hold.
Who do we see not being offered a new contract at the end of the season? Has anyone got a list of everyone who's off contract at the end of 2017?
Robert Lui, Josh Jones and Mark Flanagan would be my top 3 priorities in that order too. On current performances both Adam Walne and Olsi Krasniqi deserve new deals. I could see us holding on to Todd Carney next year too!

I can't see them retaining jones and krasniqi and would let Wayne go ,but due to home grown status would expect to keep. Still believe watto will go for a replacement for Johnson and a new centre.
