Whoever was going on about the Sheffield winger Lo has allies. League Express says lots of Superleague teams interested incl Cas! So you told us so. I've heard tell whoever it was is a complete genius 😁 Aye, but I've also heard he thinks he could be converted into a decent second row. Or stand off. Or hooker.

Key match this weekend for more squaddies is surely Widnes v Larndon. Broncos have several possibles and for me Widnes have a great lad in Danny Walker although Hooker really isnt our biggest worry. Couple more Tongans/Samoans from the WC could be the answer.

Interesting note on this lad but he follows a number of Saints players on Twitter, as well as the club. Many Saint's fans have been vocal on not being Smith fans so it could happen. I would certainly take Smith to replace Dobson.

Smiths a great organiser and kicker but sadly lost his speed. We have enough slow players on the park already.

He is a tireless workhorse in his position and you get enthusiasm and commitment. The trouble is, for me, he was never the most gifted HB in the world and he made up for with commitment and effort. You still get that, but he's older, slower, and more knackered now. Someone in the Ben Roberts mold should be what we're looking at.

I'll be honest if we got Smith back I'd see it as a backwards step, if (IF) the club has genuine ambition to progress then a younger more dynamic scrum half must be brought on board.
A leader, organiser, tactician and kicker even if it is only for 2 seasons and have him help bring on Patton (if he is indeed coming) who has the potential to be a very good halve.

Why is one of the most coverted SL players in Matty Smith seen as a step down? He's the exact type of player we require in Dobson's absence. We have the creative off the cuff HB in lui so we need a good foil for him. He's got everything we need with a good kicking, organising and goal kicking. He's got more big game experience then any of the people in our squad and would be coming to a club where he isn't under any pressure to consistently win umpteen trophies every year like he is at Saints.

For me, he's a real workhorse but not as talented as other HB's. He wouldn't be terrible for us, I just think that we should be aiming higher than an older, previous player who lacks talent. If that's where we are at then fair enough. If we want to be aiming higher I think we need a more dynamic half. If we signed him I wouldn't be disappointed per se. I would be a little underwhelmed however...

Walsh is one of those strange conundrums, when he's on his game he can be very good, controls the game well and his kicking can be very clever. But when things are not going his way he can lose his rag and goes missing, also the injury issues.
It's looking the likely option if Cats do go down - which I'd be disappointed if they do, even though they don't contribute with away support they do bring a universal appeal and it would be a big loss to SL imo.
I'd much rather Widnes go down as they haven't contributed anything to SL for a number of years now, but I'd also settle for Leigh.

From a purely recruitment point of view I'd rather see Catalans go down. Would look at Walsh, Thornley and Brought on. Also, if Wigan don't retain him maybe an offer to Escare. Leigh have a couple of players I wouldn't mind signing but Widnes, asides from Joe Mellor and Chris Houston have too many valuable assets.
