I thought when Toronto pulled out last year, the RFL said that the Toronto contracted players were exempt so that they could be taken on by other clubs. I don't know if that exemption extends to this season but Darcy Lussick may fall into this category.
Anything involving the Rugby League falls into a grey area so this may not be the case.

I’m no expert on this rule but as I understand it:
- Inu was exempt last year as his first contract after Widnes went into administration. Any subsequent contracts aren’t exempt so he now counts - The exemption from Toronto was last season so he counts this season - the country you qualify for internationally is irrelevant. Even if it is on residency. It’s where your player your junior rugby (or something like that)
Happy to be told this is wrong (apart from the last one which I know is right!)

Does that mean that Hastings can no longer play for GB ? Does he have an exception because he’s already played for GB. Not that he’ll be selected. Only Wigan born players qualify

I’ve never taken the time to understand this rule. In the big picture scheme of things,I’m happy that the Kolpak loophole has been closed and,to borrow an expression, everyone is now on a level playing field. Does Inu’s exemption apply forever or just for the contract that replaced his Widnes one, which used to be the rule I think I think it applies to us still because we were the club that picked him up after Widnes went into admin. If he then went elsewhere he would count on the overseas quota is the way I read it. I may be wrong, so I'm happy to be corrected.

Only Wigan born players qualify International qualification is completely separate. When a player declares their nationality (for sporting purposes) and it complies with the current rules (Grandparent rule) then that's it. They don't even have to have ever been to the country that they declare as long as they are allowed to declare under the current rules. Seems a bit weird, but makes sense when you look at the pacific islanders that play for their genetic heritage rather than where they were born. It's not any different from any Aussie who has an English grandparent from doing the same. Hence Hastings.

It used to be that players could qualify after a length of stay in this country, when've they could be considered GB players without any family links. As in cricket and RU Not sure if it is still the rule but they effectively came off the overseas register or whatever it is now

Grey area, grey matter. In rugby league never shall the two meet!!

The residency thing at club level disappeared a good few years ago

On the front of League Express it says 'Salford swoop for half back' and there's a picture of a certain Warrington half back.
