About food at the ground: if you go upstairs in the "family stand", food is served by the same cooks as the Flying horse: methinks the weather forecast indicates pies not burgers.

I've always enjoyed Spotland as a RL venue. Close to the action and a bit of character.

I'd not been to spotland for donkeys years and really enjoyed the visit last year even though it was baltic!
I'm away this year so unfortunately going to miss this weekends trip.

Looking forward to this game. I don't think we'll see a slow start from Salford with that starting 13. Unlike last year at Rochdale most have played together many times so shouldn't need to find their feet in the side. The bench is strong as well. Rochdale will be up for it but we should be far too much for them. Good chance for the youngsters to stake a claim. Jones at loose seems an odd one to me. I'm not sure he's got ball skills to play there regularly. Not a criticism, I just think his skills lie elsewhere

Have often thought Jones would be a decent option at 13, good hands and can break the line, not sure he's an 80 minute lock.
Think we are well stocked for 13 as Jones, Griffin, Krasniqi, Flash and Huaraki could all at a pinch do a very good job there.

I agree he'll do a job as would the others mentioned, it's just that I like to see a creatively minded loose forward. I could be a bit old fashioned in my thinking on this one admittedly

I could be a bit old fashioned in my thinking on this one admittedly I've been shot down for making similar comments in the past, I too also like to see a creative 13, also call me old fashioned? But as we know the game has moved on and the creative skill has been "coached" out of players and I am reliably informed the 13 position is now more suited to a 3rd prop.

That certainly seems to be the case these days. I suppose that makes Flash the smallest prop in the world. I'd say he's somewhere in between the old and new style of loose

For me, a thirteen should be a luxury player. Someone who has the X-factor, can graft but also has decent hands. The perfect thirteen depends on what you like, but someone like Hanley, for me, is the ideal thirteen. Alas, players of his calibre come along once in a lifetime. I like Flash for us. He's a grafter and has an eye for being in the right place. THAT pass that kept us in the MPG shows that he's more than just a workhorse. He's not in the same league as Hanley, but who is? Another of my fave 13's was Gavin Miller. Exceptional ball handler.

Phil Clarke and Nickau(if that's anything like how you spell his name) are two that stick in my mind that I've seen play

Probably the two most recent are Faz and Scully.

If you think that Griffin was drafted in to play #7 couple of seasons ago and then excelled in the front row last year he would appear to be ideal for 13.
Think more the trend is to play a smaller all action 80 minute prop there, again describes Griffin.

Going back to THAT pass from Flanagan in THAT game last season, it was indeed a great pass in in what was great passage of play, not only for the resulting try, but because all the players involved had to make long passes from left to right across the pitch - the harder unnatural side to pass for right handed players.

Rochdale have confirmed the game is on tomorrow.
On a separate note, my favourite loose was David Hulme. Not the most creative loose, but I've never seen a play with that work effort and desire in a reds shirt before or since.
