Hi mods.... any chance we can make this a sticky? Thought I'd update everyone on last night's Supporters Trust AGM meeting that took place at the Dog & Partridge and we could then use this thread for any future ST updates to keep people updated. There was also a Q&A with Rowls to kick off the evening.
Appreciate that some on here get updates on Twitter or Facebook but there will be some that don't bother with either of those so this thread might come in handy.
I'm also happy to take any suggestions raised here and put them forward to the ST on behalf of DevilTalk posters.
Ok so first things first, last night's meeting (these are notes I took on my phone so if anyone who who was there last night heard anything differently to me then please feel free to put me straight!).
Rowls Q&A (thanks to interviewer Paul Parkin)
Re: Past fortnight & Hull...
Was flattering to be linked with Hull who are a big club. Any external interest means playing group doing well & making him look good. Rowls enjoys his life in Salford and his kids are doing A-levels & money isn't everything. Rowls also admits he doesn't do Social Media and doesn't read the press as he likes to keep away from all the noise/gossip etc (maybe a few of us on here would benefit from that eh?๐). He also added his best mate is a Salford fan so probably would be disowned if he deserted us.๐ Worst part of the last week was having to cook for himself as the wife has been away.๐
Big thanks was given to Rowls on behalf of all Salford fans for sticking with us.
Team song...
Rowls was asked why we no longer do the team song. He said as a group we like to do our own thing and not just go along with what everyone else is doing. Team songs are often done to piss opposition teams off in other changing room & we like celebrate differently. Lads often stay back late after games to celebrate together as they're a tight-knit bunch.
Injuries...
Rowls more than happy to share updates on players. Singo, Stone & Hanky all possibly available this week.
Yellow cards & penalty tries...
Was asked what the ruling is about giving cards when a penalty try is awarded. It has to be one or the other, you can't have both. Decision v Wigan with Powell professional foul on Brierley used as example where sin-binned but no penalty try. Rowls would've preferred the points & thought ref was too quick to brandish yellow card.
Other disciplinary stuff...
Captains Call - Rowls thinks might be brought in to follow NRL rule.
Red cards - Thinks initially there was a disconnect between the RFL, Refs & Match Review Panel, hence some of the daft bans handed out in early games. Seems to have settled down now a bit.
Atkin/Cust decision at 6 v Wire...
Rowls thought Atkin deserved his shot as Cust hasn't quite hit the form he expected. Rates both very highly though and stated that Atkin has now accepted his value to the club as "Mr Utility" (my name for Atkin not Rowls'). Took him a while as he always wanted to be starting half but Wire away game 2 years back when Atkin turned the game from the bench was pivotal moment and he's comfortable with his role within the squad (let's be honest, who doesn't love Atkin he's f*cking ace?!๐).
Players Union...
Thinks players are underpaid as average salary is ยฃ76k and players have to sort their own pensions etc. Agrees Players Union is definitely a good thing in helping shape future of the game.
