I would hazard a guess that the Club has already agreed a support\maintenance contract with Mosaic Digital Media so their hands might be somewhat tied until that expires. I think SEO could be improved on the current site but it is significantly better than it used to be.

Most likely, though support and maintenance doesn't mean you have to use their site  I can't believe any company would put that garbage out, so many issues that are obvious to the eye, I've had students make better stuff. Plus their own site leaves a lot to be desired, it looks like a high school student created it, it's especially bad on mobile. I'm not sure why they can't fix all the issues quickly... I did everything from scratch in three days! It is. Alan? |

I did a quick look at the code on Salford's site and they haven't made simple security changes like hiding the Wordpress version. They haven't changed the default login page either 🤦 SEO should be a snip really, even Rank Math free version will do a bunch of things automatically. But I have access to a boatload of pro plugins that I told the club I can install for free too. I should probably consider doing some web design as a side hustle, it is quite fun. I'm retraining in project management at the moment, whole on a sabbatical, I left education, it's a horrible environment to work in, as a teacher.
🤣🤣 I haven't used Proboards before, do you get many option with it? I'd have thought it'd be pretty standardised.
I actually suggested to the club that they should contact you guys and see if you'd like to move the forum to the club's website and moderate it for them. They use WordPress so could install the bbpress plugin to create a forum. It would mean that the club's website would then get more visits, which is an IMG criteria.

For anyone who is interested, I haven't met the club yet - obviously there is a lot going on, but I sent four videos through today as a sort of pre-meeting if you like. I don't like to be idle  so I've been playing about with some ideas and concepts that I wanted to document. The videos covers a variety of things, but being videos, I am able to demonstrate so the information is in a format that is much easier to understand and comprehend. Also, people at the club can consume them in their own time as they obviously have other priorities right now.
We are truly a community club now and I'm always interested in feedback from people so you can access the videos here, if you're interested in this aspect - this first video is only 5 minutes and hihglight key indicators of performance, accessibility, and SEO, though the others are 20 (issues with images and optimisation), 22 (design and attention to details), and 27 (features and ideas) minutes long.
You can also visit the concept site here. These are obviously only ideas from myself, I'm only one fan, I'm sure others have ideas they would like to see incorporated - let's pull ideas together. The club are listening and want to be proactive, let's use the platform. Also, bear in mind that it's a demo and beta site, there could be errors, and the videos for YouTube and TikTok are demo videos (as are Instagram photos), they would be replaced with the club's videos and update automatically when they add content on those platforms.
As always, I have thick skin, I don't mind if you think it's terrible, it's about generating and sharing ideas, buying into the idea of a community pulling together, and staying positive about things we can do to move forward, instead of focusing on things we may not have done so well in the past - the past is exactly that, the past. We all need to get together in many formats and share ideas and skills. Not just the website but to answer questions like, how do we increase participation? What more can we do to support local clubs? How do we create new long-term fans? What would improve the pre- and post-match experience? How can we increase the average spend at the ground? How can we generate more publicity, especially free press? What can we do that would attract more sponsors and business partners? How do we generate interest in the share scheme from further afield? And so on.
Let's keep the positivity and momentum going on and off the pitch There are so many possibilities for us as a club. We are working up a steep slope at the moment but the journey will become easier once we reach the peak and travel on more even-ground. |
