They really couldn't go wrong with a WordPress site. There are so many high class plugins that allow you to add all kinds of functionality without needing to code (though at times it can help). You have things like Constant Contact and MailChimp for collecting emails, automatically categorising people into groups, such as season ticket holder, non-seaspn ticket holder, ex-season ticket holder, age groups, people withlh or without children etc, which then lets you easily send out targeted marketing instead of generic stuff. I did a simple site for a friend and they wanted to sell tickets for live music. A simple plugin meant when someone bought a ticket they got a QR code emailed to them and you scanned it at the door. Simple. Something like this would easily allow you to target people without going through somewhere like ticketmaster, such as having a password protected page where people who have been emailed can purchase a ticket for an event. Go through a certain turnstyle and scan the QR. You could create a product (match day ticket) on a discount and set it so it can only be purchased by certain users or certain emails. The club could implement ther own forum, like this, with ease. You can automate loads of social media, such as posting to them whenever you create a blog post. To generate more social media presence they could pull in RL.news from other places and post them to the blog, which will then go to social media. It could be posts from the Super League site, RFL, NRL, news sites etc. There so much it there. Also, with the right hosting you don't need to worry about or pay for backups. I use Siteground and get daily backups and I can restore easily from one file to the entire site (if say an update goes wrong) and they provide several plugins which are like having the pro level WP Rocket.
