I'm watching Paramatta v Canberra and Mitchell Moses is playing. Last week he looked in all kinds of problems and failed a HIA. He looked in far worse shape than Brodie. I thought it odd because players in NFL often miss multiple weeks with concussion, on the standard recommendation is 11 days.
Anyway, I checked the NFL and they have a full policy (pdf) available online. It's based on the Berlin (2016) Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport, which Super League also says their's is based on, but I cannot seem to find the full policy for the UK. Does anyone know of a link?
I'm curious as to whether Brodie could potentially be added to the match day squad and also whether he could (rightly) miss the final if we get there. In the NRL both would be possible but I don't know if we are a flat 11 days. if a player is to play before 11 days in the NRL, they have to go through a process and be signed off by an independent specialist - I wanted to see if we had this rule. We do require a player to be signed off by a doctor (presumably any, including the club doctor) for a first concussion:
'Before a player Returns to Play the player has to be signed off by a doctor in writing to the RFL.' and players with prolonged or second concussions'
Or by a specialist if it is a second or difficult concussion:
'Any player who has a second or subsequent concussion or a difficult concussion with prolonged recovery must see a concussion specialist and be cleared to Return to Play.'
But there doesn't seem to be a mentioned of timescales.
The NRL one can be found at the bottom of this page if anyone is interested:
