Understand the idea of the community asset but the community, being frank, doesnt view it in the same way and hasnt attended in large numbers. I'm not sure what the plan would be to make it self sufficient and who would bankroll it? Are there any examples of UK Sports Clubs/stadiums that we could learn from? Widnes/Bradford both went bust with institutional landlords and Coventry was a disaster. I am not a business owner but ever since the Stadium has been in use it has never been used to its full potential and Seb Gerrard touched on some of the events that could/would be beneficial to its upkeep. Whatever some critics say about the stadium it’s much better than many others and has many facilities that other stadiums haven’t, such as on site car parking, which despite being overpriced appears to be well used on match days. Our seating in the West Stand is excellent, always well looked after and maintained, there are good facilities for spectators although the pricing structure could be much better, this would entice more fans to spend their money on site in the bars and hospitality etc. In my opinion the security at the stadium does appear to have more stewards than other stadiums with higher attendances than ours. Considering that one of the co-owners is renowned for making money I am amazed that the stadium company hasn’t made much over the years and I am sure any new owners would be looking at utilising the stadium and its facilities more effectively than they have been. If the footfall at the stadium is increased dramatically this should lead to the stadium reaping the benefit with increased turnover, the users, let’s say as am example, Salford Red Devil’s with its current number# of teams and the Foundation etc would surely benefit from greater exposure to the general public and this same general public would benefit from greater exposure to the sport of Rugby League and its many efforts to improve people’s health and well being through the clubs various initiatives for people of all ages and different backgrounds etc.

Encouraging interview. First time I’ve seen Gerrard explicitly say he’ll put money into the club

This is exactly what we need, the AJ Bell Stadium to Salford is pivotal it acts as a ground, training facility, gym, meeting room, offices etc. In addition our Reserves, Women's team and PDSL team use the facilities, this is without taking into consideration how the stadium/training pitches facilitate the work of the Foundation for the community of Salford. We need to get behind the petition and Seb Gerrard and push our agenda with the Council and our MPs. www.change.org/p/salford-council-the-aj-bell-stadium-must-stay-for-the-community-of-salfordFor Worsley and Eccles South, the MP is Barbara Keeley - members.parliament.uk/member/1588/contact (Use the online form) For Salford and Eccles, the MP is Rebecca Long-Bailey - rebecca.longbailey.mp@parliament.uk (email) Salford Council - City, Mayor Paul Dennet - citymayor@salford.gov.uk

Encouraging interview. First time I’ve seen Gerrard explicitly say he’ll put money into the club It is indeed. The fact is we don't need millions, we just need a few hundred grand a year and the opportunity to grow our own finances with match day sales, events etc. I'm pretty sure OT Cricket Ground runs at a loss from it's day to day activities but it brings in millions from an annual test match/one dayer and a number of concerts each year. Now the AJ Bell can't do that to the scale where the cricket ground can get 50,000+ in but it should be hosting smaller concerts, boxing matches etc. And people wonder why it's haemorrhaging cash when it does very little to maximise it's income?!🤔 Does it even push itself as a wedding venue? I've seen a couple held there but I bet there aren't many.

Agreed watched our Reserves yesterday v Wire, some very good young players coming through like Toby Hughes, Dalton-Harrop at centre and Daniel Spencer-Tonks. Imagine the scope to build with Seb Gerrard on-board and the talented 1st team squad we already have assembled. Our destiny sits firmly with Salford Council's decision on a community stadium, one thing is for sure the Club are giving it their best this season.

Email from Rebecca Long-Bailey today
"Thank you for your email to Rebecca regarding the future of the AJ Bell Stadium and the Salford Red Devils.
As you will know this has been going on for a while now, and when the proposed purchase of the stadium came to light Rebecca arranged meetings with Paul King of Salford Reds and the Council and City Mayor to discuss the plans, and ensure that the future of the Salford Reds would not be in question if there was a sale of the AJ Bell Stadium. The council have confirmed they continue to work to ensure the future of the club in the City, which the option of Moor Lane being discussed.
Following your email and that of other constituents I have contacted the council for an update and they advise that Friday the 19th August was the deadline for any parties interested in purchasing the stadium to submit their bids. These will then go to cabinet to discuss and a decision to be made and announced publicly in the coming month.
I hope this update is of help, and if you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Thanks Stuart"
That's all we're asking!
Last post this I'm too old for all this stuff now.

This is the a process that gives an opportunity for the community to bid on an asset that is to be sold under Community Right to Buy. mycommunity.org.uk/nominating-an-asset-of-community-value-acv-and-community-right-to-bidNot sure why this is relevant at this stage as the stadium was listed in October 2021. The email Russ got back details the deadline for private bids was last Friday. One can only assume this will be Sale/FC and then Seb Gerrard respective bids. If we lose the AJ Bell as a community asset then I'll be disgusted with SCC especially given the limited consultation with the community of Salford. Lets see what plays out, those who have signed and shared the petition and wrote to their MP's have done their bit for the club/community. What concerns me is that August 2022 was always the deadline that Sale referred too in their communications on this matter, and this deadline has been met. It would be good to know Seb Gerrard's Community Stadium bid was tabled.

I have had nothing back off my MP Barbara Keeley will chase her office up, this looks like the wheels are in motion on the possible stadium sale, it will certainly be considered by the council following bids.

So according to the MP, the issue will be discussed at Salford Councils Cabinet meeting. The Council's website lists all the upcoming meetings and there is no Cabinet in August (not unusual as its holiday period) but there is no date given for the September meeting either. Although looking at previous meetings they tend to be towards the end of the month. Also - the agenda has to be published 30 days before the meeting so whilst the contents of the report will not be public, we should see which meeting it's getting discussed at because it will still be listed as an agenda item & published 30 days prior. sccdemocracy.salford.gov.uk/ieListMeetings.aspx?XXR=0&Year=2022&CId=133&MD=ielistmeetings

I'm not a resident of the city, I haven't therefore got a local Councillor I can approach. Instead I emailed all the individual Members of the Cabinet, as it appears it will ultimately be a Cabinet decision.
I have just had a response from Cllr Bill Hinds, Lead Member for Finance at the Council. He is also a Director of COSCOS City of Salford Community Stadium- the Joint Venture Company between the Council and Peel who currently own the stadium.
'thank you for your email as a director of COSCOS it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage but your comments have certainly been noted.'
