Quite bluntly, we've been spoiled by Evalds Patten, and Gary Broadbent. Not to mention Charlton for those of us on bus passes.

He never, ever passed. None of this long passing across the back line. Never worried about him giving a daft pass.He just didn’t know how to.If he made a break, with a man outside him,he still wouldn’t pass. Tremendous tackler, though, in the days when it counted for more. And did someone say Escaré could be a poor man’s Fielding ,or did I dream that. Heavens above !

Sadly Escare has two problems, his size and he can’t tackle. So you have to decide whether or not you have a tackling or non tackling full back. To me a fb is the last line of defence and slides across the back of the line to cover in defence.
I think Feilding would give him 30 yards start in a 100. Escare good over 30 yards.

Dave Evans was great and before Charlton and I think SRD have been really lucky with the full backs they've had over the years.

Gibbo and Steve Rule weren’t too bad.

Pre David Evans, was Arthur Gregory. He reminded me of the French in World War1. They shall not pass!. He was wonderful in stopping anyone running towards him.Needless to say he is Andy Gregory s dad.

And one for Dixon, probably the greatest of them all, so I hear…Gus Risman, who also as player coach to Workington at 41 led them to the Challenge win in 1952

Escaré more like the French in WW2. Incidentally,I’d always thought Harold Gregory, the half back, was Andy’s dad. I stand corrected. As regards full backs,Kenny Gwilliam,Neil Baker,Gibbo, the General. Could go on and on so,yes,we’ve been exceptional with full backs. Evalds being the last one in that class

Karl Fitzpatrick was also a decent full back, in an entertaining team , just at the time when the full back role was starting to change.

Yeh I'd sunk a few at time of writing however that try against saint makes me think he does offer more than Brierley at FB due to his pace and elusiveness..

It's part of the SOL model of RFL strategy.

Did not see the game but glad to see Escare got game time, deffo offers more than Brierley when he is running at the line. I thought the fumble was unlucky leading to their try, great team effort given the players missing on Friday - will watch it back on Red TV.
Here is my issue - Saints had two men sin binned, Welsby twice and Percival yet the Saints players do not get any form of ban and Watkins does for a late hit. No idea how this happens? The Saints fans were worried Re Bans on their forum with the CC Semi upcoming and our player gets the ban. This stinks and shows exactly ineffective the RFL favouring the same teams each week. Disgusted with the bias shown by this organisation to our opposition last week.
