I have to take into consideration our ability to compete on a financial level with other teams, that's a given, I wont go down that familiar road. However, even with the players we have we should be competing more than we are, and yes I'm well aware that our decent backline is hindered by a substandard pack of forwards. It seems pretty obvious to me that this coach doesn't particularly value defensive coaching. Rowley never has, he's always been the coach that loves his players to throw it around, and that's fine. We score some entertaining tries. But we really really need a defensive coach, or a head coach that knows how to train defense. We're like a group of people who have perfected bailing water out of a sinking ship but are ignoring the widening hole in the hull.
Good defense covers over the teams defects more than flamboyant attack ever can.
The one decent defensive Salford side I've seen got to the GF, and they weren't blessed by the best forwards 'on paper' either.
Would be nice to get in someone who can fix that hole in the ship...

My thoughts for what it's worth, the effort is there so that's more than last season, but we really lack rugby smarts. I called the first two trys be before they were scored, as we did not number up correctly, that's simply organisation and structure we lack both. I would call some of the errors today amateurish, but that would be an insult to the amateurs. The shot clock scrum is just laughable as is the team waiting a minute at every scrum before binding when we are chasing the game. And to have a man extra for 10 mins but only have about 3 tackles during that period is dumbfounding.
I also don't buy this entertainment tag we seem to give ourselves, we didn't even try to offload until the last 5 minutes Catalan were far more expansive but structed with it also. Any way rant over have a good evening all.

Lots of accurate comments, I thought the forwards were actually better yesterday in terms of defending the middle and for go forward. Child was awful he is not a SL standard Ref. That said Childs did not concede 36 points, it is clear we cannot defend the flanks both Wire and Cats games showed this. Rowley needs to go back to basics and stop the 'Harlem Globetrotters' brand of Rugby and earn the right to play by defending. It is not difficult to offer a simple structure. We had 9 out yesterday, it is a sorry state at the moment with injuries with little finance for loans unless we can offload an Escare, etc. With the fixtures looming it is probably going to be painful short term before it gets better. And as a final point can we play Watkins in his actual position. Just need to stick at it over the next few weeks.

It was noticeable that one of the players in our edges regularly broke the defensive line to attempt a hit on an attacking player. It was generally Croft or Cross. It happened so often that it looked like a pre agreed tactic. 36 points say it doesn’t work

I didn't expect a win yesterday. Pack is a problem but all they can do is give it their all. Not their fault if the opposing pack is bigger. My only complaint is with Akauola who seemed to be blowing after ten minutes and doesn't seem to be willing to give it his best shot. If he had the attitude of Vuniyayawa, he could be really destructive.

The sliding defence across is all over the place.

It worked well against Wigan, then after the first try on our R edge Orr came on with more instruction and it improved. Presumably work in progress. Basically our midfield defence and defence near their line was good but they were too big and strong when in our 25 (22?)

If that's it,we are beat because they have a bigger pack We might as well spend game day in the pub.yes a good big un is better than a good little un but come on,maybe we lack a bit of fitness. And its not all about money Leeds are spending plenty and at the moment are as good as us
