Yet again awful in defence, Brierley needs to command the back for the 2nd try. Suggest we stop playing Rowley Ball and complete sets, basics and build pressure. Cats have a fair few injuries now so a good time to play them. Make no mistake this team is in a survival battle. Changes need to be made.

Don`t agree with you Maurice. To revert to 5 Drives and a kick with the smallest pack in the League is barmy. Agree about the defence but 2 of their tries were very soft and the Sio slip was costly. With Rowleyball we are creating chances and there is some great attacking play and with the grounds firming we have to back Paul in his quest for the Open Rugby we are playing. I would like to see Escare given a chance though as Brierley concerns me at FB defensively and Burgess really should have had two last night.

Defence is what really matters in SL now. At Wigan they just defended us out of the game. We defended really well for periods at the start of this match and then gave the ball away early on in the tackle count to put us under increasing pressure. As M R says, stupidity.
Ref J Smith, yet again. We had pen count of 10-2 against with 5 min to go, mostly for our offside, Warrington ‘pressing’ yielded just one offside. He was awful in lots of ways
Our pack lacks size and penetration. I don’t fully understand the argument that the fb doesn’t have to be a good tackler but the stats last night
Brierley 3T, 2MT Thewlis 7T 0MT, inc 2 try saving tackles
Brierley is improving match by match but the Warrington 2nd try, ball bounced from a high kick Sio slipped, fb ?
At least Catalan have a few forwards out

Not looking good now. Toulouse will win some at home (including against us). I can’t see where our next win will come from. When do we next play Leeds? If we are relying on winning at Headingley, then we are in deep doo doo.

EB agree we don’t want to just be 5 runs and a kick, but there must be a middle ground…Wigan, KR, Wakefield, Warrington…we defend well early on then when we get out of defence we throw poor Rowleyball passes, lose the ball and defend again, resulting in going behind by a couple of tries because of a tired defence.
Surely for the first 20 min we need to play a more controlled game and secure the ball. If we can get to 20/25 minutes with an even match then maybe more expansive. But we always seem to be climbing a hill after 20 min in each game by losing the ball continuously.

The right side defence needs sorting out , think it was Lannon , Croft , Cross and Sio last night and similar at Wakefield- teams are just attacking done that side now as they know it’s leaking tries
I enjoy expansive rugby but you’ve got to earn the right to play sometimes and we don’t - we don’t have any penetration at the moment in the forwards.
Feels sorry for Atkin getting 10-15 mins here and there with the game lost , maybe try Burgess at centre and Williams on the wing to try and defend better

Burgess isn’t a centre. Seen him there a few times and it’s never worked. Hadn’t realised Jack Smith was ref. My views on him are well known but Hick in the French derby didn’t impress. Understatement

It could be we are just not good enough, but good enough to stay up just Last year we wanted Marshall out,we wanted Paul Rowley we got him,we can't keep blaming the coach. He doesn't coach them not to defend surely the players should take some responsibility Yes even this squad should be doing better its about time they stated doing it a bit of pride goes along way We were playing to stay up That's not changed

They had pride last night, they all tried hard but the tackling and stupid offloads in the game kept putting them on the back foot. Jack Smith with his massive penalty count against didn’t help. He is not good.
Survival this year, hopefully and a bigger pack next.

Happy Easter everyone!
The one thing about not watching, listening or reading about RL is depression becomes a thing of the past.
I did see the TO v Dracs game and I realised that the ref though rarely wrong is accustomed to rules that always favour the side with the ball and even more so when they're dominant. That's a bad recipe for real competition in any sport as it tips the game wildly one way.

As a negative……everything else. Theyre a poor bunch, step out of line and you’re sidelined. Just been watching the matches from earlier today. Even the video refs have a stupid script to ensure they’re vanilla. In the Wigan game, the ref influenced it early on,and he just made wrong decisions. In conclusion, although we wouldn’t have a game without them, they’re sub standard and the problems stem from the top

In conclusion, although we wouldn’t have a game without them, they’re sub standard and the problems stem from the top I think the rules which favour dominance generally are the direct result of attempts to see quality attacking rugby but without balance refs will always look wanting just as weaker sides will be blamed for a lack of discipline. It's why upsets are rare and why those fans at the suffering end of decisions believe the man in the middle is poor.
The extra push at the ruck is completely illegal and I never saw it punished in all the time I watched RL.
