I must admit I do find it hard to swallow that 20% of players are not vaccinated. They want freedom of choice, they want to play and earn money; so how about a ruling that “you can only play and hence earn wages ( thus taking care of your fellow professionals) if you’re fully vaccinated”
We do live in a land of openness and freedom but to put your fellow professionals at risk, to risk overloading hospitals etc there has to be a consequence for not being vaccinated. And what is the peer reviewed evidence for people not being vaccinated; to date none.
Snowflakes, loony left, I want to do things my way…..great but you lose the privilege of circulating with the vast majority if you won’t protect others
(Assume this might cause a little discussion in the dull days with no matches😉)

It’s a basic human right to refuse the vaccine. It’s still perfectly ok to refuse them access where they could endanger others. In short, they can choose not to have it with my blessing but they should be nowhere near a training ground

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding here, but as far as I am aware being vaccinated does not stop you passing it on? So, as far as I’m concerned, people should have the choice to do as they wish
Personally I’m in the pro vaccine camp, the evidence of its benefits is overwhelming, but I don’t believe people should be forced to have it.

For the record, Anti-Vax idiots, because that's what they are, come from both sides of the political spectrum and all walks of life. Public health isn't a political issue, yet many seem to make it so. All that clubs have to do is show a little solidarity with each other and insist (like a lot of businesses do) that if they pay someone to work for them, then they can insist on vaccination. There's lots of businesses and government departments that already do this. Don't want to comply with terms of employment? off you go. The problem with a pandemic is that giving people the personal choice to vaccinate doesn't just affect them. It will affect others and sometimes in very very negative ways. Vaccines are beneficial to nearly all of us, but more importantly they protect those that legitimately cannot get them. The higher the number of us that get them the more likely we are to see the virus off.
Yes I'm aware that being vaccinated may not mean you cannot spread it, but those that use this excuse fail to understand how infection works. Vaccination shortens the viruses ability to replicate meaning that those who are vaccinated and pass it on will only pass it on in a rapidly reduced state. Each branch will fizzle away a lot quicker than if it sits inside an unvaccinated person for longer, allowing them to spread it for longer and increasing the risk of serious disease.
If sports clubs let player power rule, regardless of sport, then they are risking their own financial future due to the actions of, lets face it, some players of questionable mental faculty...

I don’t think you’re misunderstanding. What you say about the vaccinated passing it on is probably true, but not to the same extent as the unvaccinated. Of course they should have the choice to do as they wish but all the evidence strongly suggests that the unvaccinated are not only a danger to themselves but also who they come in contact with. Same conclusion as last time, let them do as they wish but keep them away from the training ground. Their choice honoured, our choice honoured. Straightforward. ps Just seen Carnster’s post and he’s also spot on. Quoting Tony Blair’s ‘idiots’ description was probably done unconsciously

In London apparently a third haven’t been vaccinated, that’s where it’s spreading most quickly anf the place where hospitals are under strain.
It’s probably impossible to measure vaccination aligned to rate of transmission but if you’re vaccinated there is a less chance of getting it and transmitting it and if you get it less chance of being hospitalised but then again , as you’ve realised, I am no expert.

As has been implied Choice is personal Responsibility to others should be mandatory

I also have more experience than most about what happens when a virus is trying its hardest to kill you in an ICU. Believe me, the thought of repeating that trauma doesn't bare thinking about.
It does amuse me though, why wearing a little cloth, not standing near people, sitting at home watching Netflix and getting a little injection seems to be the most difficult thing on earth for a large section of humanity. Imagine if the government had asked them to do something difficult?

To be honest I agree with everything that’s being said, personally I’ve followed all the advice and am fully boosted up, to me it’s a no brainer. I’ve also tried as hard as possible to look beyond the headlines and read up on other people’s opinions, most of which I really don’t agree with but in the interests of debate I try to look outside my own echo chamber, (I hate being told to do some research by conspiracy theorist anti Vaxxers!) and still feel the same.
But, I find it hard that people can lose their jobs because they don’t want to take a vaccine. Again, maybe I’m wrong here, but are other vaccines (eg Flu) mandatory? Maybe they are in NHS or care homes, but I’ve never heard of it. I know it’s different, we’ve mostly got some kind of antibodies to flu, but it can still be passed on, it can still kill. I struggle with it as I completely agree everyone should have it, I know from speaking to people in the front line almost 100% of hospitalised Covid patients are non vaccinated.

Vaccines are one of the main chains being used to try and drag us all up from the mire the pandemic has us trapped in. Anti Vaxers are the weak link in that chain.
Be they professional sportsmen or not.
