A Conference type structure has been proposed by Martin Sadler along the lines of the way US soccer has developed ( they started the same time as SL and have grown from 10 to 27 teams in that time )
Quite complex, so I don’t think the SL board will be able to read it, never mind consider it, but the more you read it the more merits it has.

I actually quite like the idea. It has shortfalls, sure, but so does any restructure. He's right in saying 'why not be more radical?' as everything that's been tried so far has failed and a ten team SL is doomed to failure anyway. What's the worst that could happen? It fails. Well, so has everything else.

Why can't we go back to plain old simple. Divisions of 14, top team are Champions, two up, two down. I would get rid of the play offs too as all they have created is a League where the top teams pick and choose their games in preparation for the play offs. Having the Top team as Champions makes every match count, no margin for error.
The game on the pitch needs tidying up, it's like a playground free for all at present, with six again, no scrums, forward passes galore, confusing ball steals and no one plays the ball correctly.
Also, more structure is needed in the fixture list as it's impossible to work out who is playing when. The majority of the games need to be on one day, creating in effect an RL day.
More terrestial tv is needed too. Sky aren't bothered really as seen by their recent haphazard coverage. Audience figures for terrestial sport have been huge these past couple of years. Whilst the tv deal might be worth less, the added coverage and exposure will attract more people and there will be more sponsorship exposure on terrestial too.
From Day one Super League has been over thought. The good idea at the outset was making matches an event with other attractions at the grounds on matchdays. However, all the clubs decided they wanted to play Friday!
The game is dying now and we need to get back to basics. I hear people say get rid of some clubs (which would include Salford for many I imagine) and create new franchises. If the people in the heartlands are losing interest what hope is there of getting interest anywhere else.
We need to make it simple, back to basics, settle everything down for a few years at least and then take it from there.

Lots of interesting ideas coming out of the woodwork for this. Lots which, to me, have merit. Although the SL Board seemed to have put forward a plan without consultation or consideration from a wider audience…and it links to the ‘thoughts’ of our RFL chief😩 I hope we don’t create a dogs breakfast just to enable the favoured few to get all the money and win everything.
Somehow we have to get a group of independent knowledgable people to develop this in a way which considers all thoughts and is best for the future of the sport not the best for the usual top 4; now there’s a challenge ( and not Robbie Paul’s group of circus performers)

That’s a pity; stability instead of chaos. Somebody is being sensible rather than flying ahead with another I’ll thought through idea. Whatever next😉

As part of any restructure, in what any form it may take, I still think the play offs should be scrapped with the top team Champions. However, I had an idea that in their place the top four in Super League and the top 4 in NRL could qualify for a "World Club Championship" to be played over three weekends in February. It would be straight knock out, last eight, semi-finals, Final. It could alternate each year betwen Aus and UK or France or elsewhere. It might be said that clubs may baulk at travelling for possibly one match but that happens anyway now with the World Club Final. It would give the Sport a high profile event each year and in time become like the battle for Champions League places each season. Back home the eight remaining Super League clubs could play in a Super League Trophy competition? After each event there could be a two week break then the season starts.
