Aussies aren’t being selfish. Most of the players and their families are away from home and in covid bubbles. Put yourself in their shoes. They are ordinary men just like us. Have any team from the Southern Hemisphere ever pulled out of a competition prior to covid?
Being bullied? This is a line right out of the Gary Schofield playbook.

Have I missed something where its being reported that the players are pulling out? I’ve not seen that, as far as I’m aware it’s the governing bodies. Put myself in their shoes, once in 4 years chance, if I’m lucky, to win a World Cup in my sport, not much would stop me. NRL don’t care about anything but their product. It’s short sighted at best. Surely a good international game benefits them too? But they just want to protect their assets. To me this is just an excuse. Maybe bully is the wrong term, but I think they are trying it on based on their power in the sport to their own benefit

"Leader of the House of Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg, has claimed Australia and New Zealand have withdrawn from the Rugby League World Cup because they are scared of losing.
Rees-Mogg, made the joke amid concerns in the British Parliament over the two countries’ decision to pull out of the tournament, the Canberra Times has reported.
Labour’s Judith Cummins, currently acting as a temporary deputy leader, also waded into the argument, stating that Australia and New Zealand have “bottled it”."

It’s a joke. It’s nothing to do with Covid, it’s just an excuse That said agree with what you’ve said about Rees mogg, odious human. if he’s on our side I’d be tempted to switch.

Maybe they've seen what a farce Super League has become for the second season running during the pandemic and don't trust our organisations to run a bath let alone a global international tournament.

It’s not a black and white issue. SL is cancelling games left, right and centre. Covid is on the up in the uk and likely to be worse in the autumn/winter months (but there’s a chance if they keep jabbing people and let it run riot over the swimmer in the non-jabbed and unlucky-jabbed that it will have settled down). I can see why players might br worried about coming.
But as far as I can tell the players want to play, it is the NRL administrators who have pulled the plug. It is about impact on the next NRL season. That is what is so disappointing.
I think it had to still go ahead. Anything else will be a real disappointment. People might say it would be like the football World Cup without Brazil and Italy/Germany/Argentina but if England got to that World Cup final *most* people wouldn’t care. That would be what cuts through in RL too - an England final/win. The players should beoeee to choose to play for their heritage teams if they want (Tedesco for Italy 👀).
Hopefully Tonga, Samoa, Fiji will still have their NRL players playing. Not sure if the Aus/NZ women and wheelchair players are being allowed to play?

RuB I don’t think you can say the players want to come. The odd one has but there are at least 60of them
A World Cup,without Aus and NZ, the teams I jwanted to see, makes it a nonsense. We’re going through Herd Immunity, relaxing any rules that suit and trying to get the economy moving ( but the herd can’t work)
It’ll be another pointless exercise with low crowds, big scores and little interest, other than the odd game. RL at the moment due to COVID is on its knees and in a month it’s predicted to be much worse. Let’s not get it like the Olympics or recently the England 20/20 team or like RL has been over the past 18 months and try and run a major event in a state of chaos
Draw a line under it and use the time to …invite Tongs or Pacific Islands for a tour, Lancs v York’s or whatever. But at least something worth watching. Use it as a big marketing tool for next season, not a deflated balloon, with games not worth watching. Sport is about competition and a World Cup should be the elite part of that. And to me if it goes ahead will make RL a joke once again.
I cant see any point besides trying to keep sponsorship

You do realise you laughed at your own post, Russ? carnster it was a quote Mogg who is very unlikely to like RL, and I would doubt that he's ever been to a match calling out the Aussies for being chicken. If that's not funny I don't know what is.
Allsorts of people who you suspect have little knowledge of our game have come out like they're life long aficionados and regulars at the pub aftrewards.
Whatever else it's done it's given the game and the WC a real boost in coverage.
