We can dress it up all we like, but if the Australians don't come their is know meaningful world Cup,its like the Olimpics without crowds what's that all about. Their as been views on this thread about back to normal or not,you can't get to see a Doctor people are not getting cancer treatment A/E Departments are telling people you will be waiting 14 hours and that's before the freedom Day.Sorry I must be missing something.

Dixon we live in a new world of hype, gloss, hope and make believe. You're right lots of public bodies, businesses and people are broken and we get hype partially because Sky have big contracts that we 'must' fulfill come what may.
Sportsmen living in bubbles, constant tests, games being postponed, false games etc and this is only July.
So the ' free for all starts next week and the cold weather ( viruses love the cold) in October. They'll need 2 or 3 squads each in bubbles to get through it. In my view stupidity...but it's RL
Just watched the processes that athletes inJapan are going thro for the Olympics and totally crazy...and why...money

I’m going to the Cricket next Tuesday. Full crowd of 20k Am I worried no not in the slightest. I’ve had both jabs been careful and followed all the guidelines. I’m a key worker and go into hospitals water boards Covid labs all over the UK and overseas. I’m in Greece now. Had loads of tests never tested positive once. Why have I never caught it but thousands each day do ? I am sick of hearing of wave this wave that we have to lock down. It is not going away it’s a virus. Live with it and let’s get on with our lives.

Your view isn't wrong for you, but RL is a team sport needing 30 in a squad.
If you look at the present situation where virtually all SL teams are being hit by Covid and then the England1 day cricket squad having to isolate. And obviously RL a close contact sport. Looks like the British Lions RU tour in SA is getting s bit chaotic
This thing is growing now and will only get worse. I don't know how you keep so many teams safe...and if one goes down they all fall for 10 days isolation. Worsley Old Hall just closed, and other places doing the same.
Still here and bubbling up for a few years yet.

As an island nation all we realistically had to do was...
1. Close borders and lock down until test and trace was completed, giving time for vaccines to be worked on. 2. Once robust T&T rolled out, lock down eased carefully with safety measures while waiting for vaccines. 3. Once vaccines arrived vaccinate the majority of the UK 4. Open up cautiously and have strong control methods at the borders
What we got was...
1. Open borders. lock down too late and a not fit for purpose T&T 2. T&T useless then open up because of pressure from businesses to make money. 3. Lock down again but close borders only after letting in a dangerous variant due to political choices. Vaccines rolled out successfully by NHS. 4. Unlock everything without safety measures while a deadly variant runs rampant before we've vaccinated enough people to provide herd immunity.
People are right when they say we'll have to live with it like flu, but unlike flu, covid is way more dangerous and I speak as someone who has experienced Intensive care and intubation. We should be living with it when cases are fairly low, under control and the majority are double vaccinated. 45 thousand cases a day is ridiculous and playing Russian roulette with covid evolving into something that might avoid the vaccine. It may not, but it's a massive gamble.
For people to be apathetic, and I understand why they are, at this stage is pretty dangerous thinking imo. We've always been a selfish people but after the mishandling of everything by those in charge it's making people even more apathetic to the reality.
We may get lucky, but the odds of us being plague island central is very high and that will effect a lot in a global community.

Carnster: exactly. I've relatives in the NHS. Why my nephew starting out as a junior doctor had to ring relatives every night to say their kin had died (his first week on nights) and then have people tell him that it's no worse than flu ... When you get flu: you're in bed and probably hospital for days. It's not flu if you can walk: it's a light cold.

Just hope you don't need the Doctor or A/E 🙏 I had an operation delayed for a year and have had only phone consultations with the doctor and specialist before and after it was done so yes I have. Next doom mongering thought Dixon

I agree about borders and the absolute shambles this government have made of this. However I never once said it was like the flu it’s a deadly virus and over 100,000 deaths proves this. I know you caught it so can best comment on this but I too also know of people who caught it and also have unfortunately died. We cannot carry on as we have been is what I keep saying, it’s not just the economy, the country is fooked anyway. If people want to stay as they are cooped up at home not meeting anyone and being frightened of catching the virus then fine stick to that. I however will start to live my life again, wear a mask in public places sanitise my hands as much as possible and go to events with crowds and yes pubs.

How about 250,000 extra people have been tested positive this week and hospital cases doubling every 3 weeks. Reckon about 1% of the population have it and it’s rapidly increasing. Lots of people are coming back from Greece and going to full house cricket matches😉 Lots of super fit young SL players have been really bad. Taylor been really ill and lost lots of weight. Virtually every SL team has had it.
So nothing to worry about PR. Life as normal.

Thing is, everyone’s points are right on this, it just depends on which ones you hold most important. The government ballsed this up at the start but we are where we are now. I don’t think there will ever be a “right” time to open up, unfortunately you’ll never get everyone to vaccinate, and you can’t control other countries. To me, there’s risk involved in pretty much everything you do, catching other virus, crossing the road, playing rugby itself, all have risks. It just depends on the individual how you want to deal with it.
Anyway, on topic I can see Oz and NZ sending over a B team with the NRL using this as an excuse to keep their prized assets at home. They aren’t interested in the international game. May give us a chance to win but would sooner see the main men
