They're planning for it to be on. Reality perhaps a big step away from that.
They're expecting 1500 a day in hospital and 150 deaths per day in mid August. Seems they're going for herd immunity. Heaven only knows what October will be like with Variant Gamma or whatever it becomes, colds that we didn't have this last year and whatever the new influenza bug is. Oh and full hospitals. When you look at what Oz are doing, admittedly with less vaccinated but lower population density, we seem to be putting the economy first; even though lots of staff stopping places opening fully.
Yep as KB said, keep those masks on, keep your 2m and wash your hands.

Australia’s take up is around 20% They have had 77 cases in Sydney and imposed a 3 week lockdown because their vaccine rollout is pathetic. We have to learn to live with Covid like we have with other Viruses over the years as it ain’t going away. Continually locking down the country doesn’t help anyone.

It depends how you value things 10,000 people weekly will suffer from it, a good no will have long term Covid, a large number in hospitals, 1000+ people a week in Aug dying from it so that we develop some form of herd resistance. And it won't be the really frail this time as lots of those, sadly have passed.
And then the economy slows anyway because of staff shortages. Lots of places closing due to staff shortages and staff catching Covid
No real answer, just a judgement call.

No real answer, just a judgement call. Whatever your politics, you wouldn’t want to have to make that call, knowing that half the population think one thing, and the other half another.

Which is why I think now it should be down to the public to decide how they want to carry on. If they’re vulnerable, scared or uncomfortable going forward then don’t attend mass gatherings and continue to social distance, wear masks etc. The rest of the public should be allowed to crack on as normal.

There are 4 million people considered medically extremely vulnerable. How many of those are we happy to die earlier than they would otherwise?
Are we really ok that 4 million have to stay at home (without additional government support if they can’t work) so that you don’t have to wear a mask on the bus?

I’m vulnerable and will be continuing wearing my mask (even though I’ve been vaccinated). But I want the world to get moving again, if we don’t get back to normal soon we are going to end up in an endless cycle. I’m sick of seeing businesses going under and people struggling for money.

I think everyone wants the world to get back to normal. But to pretend it is back to normal when it isn’t is criminally insane by the government. And will only end up with a lot of unnecessary deaths or back in full lock down (as we’ve seen before) The UK has spectacularly managed to have one of the worst death rates and biggest economic impacts in the world. Which shows that keeping things open too long doesn’t save the economy No reason to keep things shut but mandating mask wearing in crowded places for a bit longer for the healthy is not unreasonable to enable more vulnerable to have done quality of life. I hate wearing a mask but I’d rather do that if it allows more people to be able to access the things that are open and reduces the chance of me giving them a disease that might kill them then seems to me it should just be a rule. Likewise some sensible social distancing. And crucially better sick pay so people aren’t choosing between feeding their kids and passing on a disease to the people they work with and financial support for vulnerable people who still need to work from home. Anyhow, as for the World Cup, I’d rather it went ahead and we shouldn’t let the NRL clubs hold it to random. But with a post Euros spike on its way followed by the natural autumn increase it wouldn’t surprise me if it wasn’t just the Aussies who don’t want to come

I know this is a RL site, but on Covid, Israel is the most vaccinated country and took off lots of restrictions but is now having to put a lot of them back on. Covid numbers spiking again; they're a few months ahead of us.
World Cup this winter; just hope it's not another cock up with last minute major changes. Seems v difficult to achieve to me. Olympics going ahead but no spectators; sadly will kill it. All for tv money

Sorry Bonitared,I will have to disagree on this one. I get sick of these politicians whining on about how they went into politics to serve, and how they could get more in the city. The ex health secretary was more interested in feeling someones you no what than the health of the nation. Ps I an going for the next lockdown about Christmas.

A lot of these restrictions will be back on by the time the RLWC comes around. We're not going to have full stadiums for a majority of the games anyway so should not be a big deal. Can see restrictions on some of the bigger games though.
My personal view is that it's six of one and half dozen of the other. If we do it this year we're likely to be missing some players and won't get the momentum we'd have liked in terms of crowds. If we push to next year when things are likely to be more open we'll have the costs incurred of delaying it (plus are the venues all available?) and we'll get drowned out by Qatar 2022. In that sort of scenario may as well just get on with it in my view.

According to the BBC Australia still haven’t signed the agreement. 12 NRL clubs have had to relocate to the Gold Coast because of covid. We could be left with a situation where players have been away from home for months and will be reluctant to travel to the UK and then isolate in a hotel on their return. This will obviously also impact the Kiwis and South Sea Island nations.
There are many IF’s to face along the way but I have serious concerns about the integrity of the competition based on those willing to travel.

Apparently NRL clubs don't want it this year
