I agree up to a point but I was 18 a long time before said cricketer and I wouldn’t expect me or any of my mates to say the things he tweeted and anyone think they are ok (I suspect bus stops and toilet walls were the equivalent place for spewing out views in writing in the late 80s).

There are still plenty of people knocking round who say things the same or equivalent (see Mr Inu, football fans booing the taking the knee, the outpouring of bile in RL when they did it last year) so who’s views do we use to define what is socially acceptable/ok to represent a given brand (England cricket, Salford RLFC, etc) at any given point in time?

I do think that a more nuanced approach would be helpful but that leaves open accusations of inconsistency

As an aside I think it’s interesting that many people (not you BR) who say they refuse to use social media as it is full of idiots shouting rubbish are also keen to defend people who contribute to social media platforms being such cesspits at times

I think Inu's lucky he wasn't at any other club to be honest, as I don't think a lot of clubs would have been as measured as Salford have here. By measured, I mean that the punishment fits the 'crime' in this case. I think Inu's comments were ambiguous enough for this outcome. If he'd have used bleaker language he may not have got away with it.

Anyway, onward and upward...
