In 1970 I along with a good mate went to a meeting in the Club at the Williows, there was a bloke from Bradford and a few from the RL they were preaching about Salford starting a Colts team in the Under 18’s League , subsequently one was formed under the Great Dai Moses and Ernie Chritchley, we Trained at Stott Lane along side the first team Ken Roberts, Paul Charlton etc . It was tough, I was a Winger but at the time had a glass jaw😉😂😂😎 the lads were a great bunch, being Salford everything was done on a shoe string. Although I never played in the team, I wasn’t big enough I was loaned to Widnes and Warrington and played against Salford, that’s when I noticed I had a glass Jaw😂😂 We went all over the place, Leeds had a good team, Blackbrook and HKR were hard opposition but the Salford lads never took a step back. It toughened me up as the following year I enlisted in the Armed Forces. I think only one of the team got into the Salford first team.....Lawrence Barton if memory serves, but don’t quote me on that it was a long time ago😉

RL was definitely played in Salford High Schools in the early 90's and certain schools were far more renowned for their rugby teams than their footy teams (Our Lady, Buile Hill, Joey Eastham's). Well at least in our year they were. If RL isn't played now in Salford schools then it's scandalous although in today's "it's too dangerous to make physical contact while playing sport" society it wouldn't surprise me if it's been taken off the curriculum completely.🙄
I've got 2 nephews in Ellesmere High (previously Wentworth) and can't recall either of them ever mentioning playing rugby in school.

It was definitely played in the 80s as Don Preston was one of our PE teachers at Buile Hill

We played Union at Irlam High under Manchester, until the boundaries changed late 70's and we became Salford and played League.
Free season tickets for all the school rugby team from Salford, we even got quite good and most of us played in the Salford Colts team (Dave Twist, Paul Fletcher, Steve Crossley, Chris Preece etc) and on to the first team.
Get in to the schools on both sides of the canal, you'd be surprised how many people like league.

As someone very involved in schools rugby in the 80's and 90's, it's not as simple as you think. Anyone (thinks they) can play soccer so volunteers are 10 a penny. However rugby is something you need a commitment to and is not as instinctive as soccer or basketball. Consider cricket. Get beyond a bit of chucking and you are in specialist land. Even being in Oldham meant it was an uphill struggle (why I envied my colleagues at Counthill and Saddleworth) I had to stop because of other commitments. I miss it. I even gave my LSRL/NWSRL tie to Jacko … he'll never get one like it.

I think for a start the Foundation gets about £100,000 per year off Sky Rowley is employed to develop and lead Community clubs always want players and a lot of their younger ones attend school Etc etc
We just perhaps need to be positive and get a plan and start implementing it

It was Warrington college team Russ, not the Wolves Academy Our development academy is going well in their college league. Unbeaten I think. There’s a big difference between a development academy and an elite academy though Thanks, it did strike me as unlikely but as good news is hens teeth for the club at present I may have celebrated what I imagined the SRD website said.

Presumably he's contracted and if he's not broken the terms of his contract he'll stay if he wishes. So in contractual terms done nothing wrong, play him or loan him out, possibly.
Interesting times again. Judging by Twitter is always a strange thing for me. In test cricket they're now looking at tweets by some of the players when they were 16 after the Robinson affair.

I think it shows that people need to stop highlighting their own poor judgement on a number of issues. It's like they think the written word disappears into the ether after a set time... There used to be something called ‘the state of the art defence’. Basically it meant that you couldn’t be judged to be at fault of something today,if the knowledge wasn’t there at the time of the incident. Common sense dictates that something similar should apply to human behaviour, including social media. Sexism, racism and general respect for others has come a long way over the last few years ,and that’s brilliant, but let’s not us all be Captain Hindsights and referee yesterday’s actions by today’s improved standards.

Really good statement, satisfied with the way the club have dealt with it personally. Will he be available from beginning of July then I'm assuming?

Brilliant statement, and now it's all out and we heard from the club and the player hopefully he can get back to playing rugby when he is allowed to
