IB has resurected the idea of a draft system which I thought was illegal though maybe it won't be after Brexit?
Of course those who benefit now will oppose the idea.
His reasoning is sound but as old as the hills.

Of all the things I’ve seen blamed on the EU - not being able to have a draft system Is definitely a new one.
The anti-Salford crowd will jump all over this saying he’s only suggesting it because we don’t have an academy, etc.
It wouldn’t work with promotion/relegation either.

Not the EU, LR the courts who made the rulings about players and contracts. One of the aims for the Tory sceptics was to only have English courts decide things and I assumed this would be one of them.
I'm not sure why P&R would matter though?

The NFL draft is intended to level the playing field over time. You could get a player drafted into a rubbish team, destined to be relegated and never come back. With no P&R they get time to develop at the top level and a rubbish team could then build a decent team around a few good youngsters but it takes time.

Yes this is innovation in the North of England. Think we should investigate further the Cuba, Belarus and Chile market places first. Much better bets.

Political comment 👀 😂😂😂 No just a statement of fact and more to do with if a draft system could be a legal one.

Promotion and relegation needs to go first for it to happen. Regardless, I don't think the pool of talent is large enough year in year out for it to be viable. It would work if done correctly but just cannot see it ever happening as certain clubs have a monopoly on young talent and wont want the playing field leveled.

I think Bleasy meant changing the whole way it all works.
As things stand the gravitational pull of much richer and always more successful clubs is all a bit a glass ceiling.

I've often wondered what level of say a young kid involved in the draft gets on his destination.
If you take the biggest draft system the NFL why would any right minded individual want to end up in LA, NY, Seatle or Chicago with there nightly riots.
In the UK you could say a kid who still lives at home but is in the Wigan set up might not want to live or commute over to Hull if they drafted him.

They do have some say in the NFL draft as they are extensively interviewed beforehand so can state their preference. You often get teams trading position when they Have the top picks but know those players don’t want to come (or they don’t need them). I’m not sure a few isolated protests in NY would put anyone off but some country boys might not fancy a big city, etc.
In the proposal Blease puts forward he does say draft picks would be from a local pool so someone from Hull wouldn’t be forced to decamp to Wigan. That would make things more complicated and sort of defeats the idea a bit for me.

The obvious hitch here is there isn't a big enough pool of talent, then factoring in Catalans and any potential North American teams it all gets to messy.
Think this is more click bait than anything else.

I don't think it's the worse idea anyone's ever had. It's definitely a problem for smaller clubs like us as soon as we have a homegrown player who shows that their quality then suddenly people come out and say that a certain big name team Wigan, Saints etc should sign them. Yet they're the same people to moan about the sport not being as enjoyable yet actively encouraging a sort of seperate league with all the best players at 2 or 3 clubs.

It was never a bad idea but crashed on the rocks of legal restraint.
There is more to it than a simple first pick but it's always interesting how people point to it not working rather than solutions to make it possible.
