As I mentioned I was away for the game Saturday so couldn't really get anything but sporadic updates, to say I was a bit of a giddy kipper is a huge understatement. Up until I got home last night I'd only seen the last 5 minutes and biblical as it was it didn't tell the entire story.
Don't think I've seen a more committed professional performance for Salford in 20 years, the discipline and handling of the pressure was exemplary, to play the game they did after losing Junior so early was immense, that we can bring a player of the quality of Evalds on shows there is more strength in depth than we realise. That BMM took the knock he did and came back on shows the type of player we have, what we need is that 10% more dedication from him and he will be an unstoppable force. That our rock went off injured at such a crucial time could have been a hammer blow but from what I saw Krasniqi proved there is the potential to be a Salford player of no little quality.
When you see Watson on the highlights he looks the calmest person in the ground and I'm sure that feeds through to the team, occasionally I have thought we might need a bigger name coach to take us forward, but I am happy to be proven very very wrong. I do think though he needs support in the coaching staff but doubt that will happen following the Docs disclosure he is cutting costs next season. We are losing Sheens and Carvell, to not replace either will I fear have a very telling effect on other people within the club.
With the signing of Brining and Kenny we have the nucleolus of a good young squad, but we definitely need another old head in there, Kopczak needs the support of another bruising forward, Griffin and Krasniqi offer ample support but a real bruiser/enforcer is still needed. Evalds and Lannon need now to feature regularly, both are class young players and need to be the future of the team. I would seriously look at what Vidot has brought to the team, it was unfortunate he got injured pre season but since his return he has looked unfit and unmotivated, for what he must surely be earning two quality young British players could be brought in. I would also seriously look at Morgan Escarรฉ from Catalan who is young, scores tries for fun and has plenty of SL experience.

Yes it was a fantastic comeback. And we are all glad it happened. But one swallow does not make a summer. In my opinion we need a least six quality players or we will be in the same boat next season. We need quality to entice fans back for a start. But the utterances from the owner since Saturday don't fill one with much confidence Saturday gave us a chance or just 12 months grace.

dixon13 good name that!
MK has said since the weekend we need players, 2-3 and the playing side won't be affected by cost cutting so what exactly does not fill you with confidence?

Koucash says a lot of things.Probably depending on what side of bed he uses.I want to know what the coach thinks I think he as more knowledge of game than Koucash don't you.

I think the spelling of the Doc's name in that way is not a good way to start dixon. MK is entitled to an opinion even if he wasn't the owner. And what he said about adding players is very much what's said on any SRD forum thread, present squad with a few additions would be good. And it sounds about right to me. Also it's not as if Ian Watson is backward in coming forward in voicing his opinions. Now, I'm a big fan of Ian and in a way probably one of the few who are glad he's still coach but on the coach has more knowledge side of your argument I've only two words to say........Phil Joseph.

I don't think accidentally misspelling his name is a reason to belittle the argument? Hardly called him nocash/class/other really amusing nickname. Sometimes I forget whether it's k or c myself.
Anyway, back room staff are majorly important in any sports club. Especially one where the owner is new to it, and shall we say extravagant? My opinion we need to spend more on the off field, that area isn't salary capped so we can get the best of the best in.
However, I've learnt over the past few years to take whatever marwan says with a big pinch of salt. So let's just see what unfolds.
I'm glad your a fan of the doc, it's natural for people to remain sceptical though.

What i have completely forgotten in all this malarkey is that without the points deduction (which had nothing to do with this set of players) this team finished 8th. Better than the season before and a good base to build for this coming year. The off field issues need resolving i know but on the field we improved noticeably. IW pointed out in an interview it was our best defensive effort for 10 years. Get the recruitment right and the playing side will be fine.

I agree exiledred we wouldn't have had the drama of the Middle 8's if it wasn't for the points deduction. Starting with a clean slate next year, we should look to build on our 8th place finish. The players will not want to be in the same situation next season!

You say the present squad with a few additions is fine.I am sorry but I disagree. If you wipe away the points deduction and the bad performances after/because of it. The current group of players more than held their own. We all said that we were maybe three quality players away from a very good squad with also a few more youngsters added for depth. This group of players has had a very tough season and it will shape them into a sharper unit next season. If you add in a couple of players where we were desperately needing them, a good off-season to refresh the legs and we are heading in the right direction. Of course all teams can strive to be better and recruit better players, but I'd be interested to see why you think the current group are not good enough.

I think we need two big mobile props If Evals cannot get a stating place in this side their is something wrong. We need a replacement for the lad going to Hull and I think we need an half back. But that's just my opinion.
