In the 1966/7 Challenge Cup, Salford beat St Helens away (after drawing at home) then beat Wigan away ( the great Frank Collier scored against his hometown side)
So it can be done and I think it's about time we did it again.
( Sadly then lost away to Dewsbury in the QF on a mud heap and missed a kickable goal to win, Sid Lowden??)

Geoff Simms, and Frank Collier is reputed to have hit him on the bus back because he felt we were on our way to Wembley but for the miss. We got there the following year but that defeat still hurts. Roll on the G/F

Think sadly big Frank committed suicide. Great prop.
I spoke to Paul ? the blond winger ( married Snape daughter) who played in that match and he said there was a big argument as to who was to take the ill fated kick on the pitch.
And yes the final Hartley took out Billy Burgess from the ko.And Chris Hesketh always maintained he scored that try. Oh for VAR!!

Paul Murphy, blond bombshell! Kicked goals. Ran the sandwich bar in the Social Club, the turkey baguettes were great but I don’t think we called them baguettes in those days.

Who do we want to play next week?
Personally, I'd prefer us to play Saints - we never seem to get the better of Wigan and they just appear to have that winning mentality that gets them over the finish line.
As a neutral I think it's going to be a great spectacle to watch.

Either way it’s a massive challenge for us. The only teams we haven’t beaten this year. We haven’t won at saints for something 250 years.
But I know what you mean. Despite being far and away the best team in the league it dies feel like saints haven’t quite got the same steel as wigan. But I don’t think either will be easier than the other one. Let’s just give it our best shot whoever we get

Because of just one thing, I'd rather meet Saints in the final. That one thing? Saints have a history of bottling it in finals. So, if we beat Wigan next week, we'll win the final. Easy. No, I'm not convincing myself either. Whatever way you look at it, for us to win it, 3rd has to beat 1st and 2nd in the last two games of the season. Good for the game as a whole. Bring them on! We can beat both of them.

Watson said when Childs, the video ref, didn't rule out the dropped ball in the last minute try scoring at Saints, that he'd like to be back at the ground in the play offs to do the match again!
So Saints next week and Wigan on a neutral ground with a good ref and good video. Wigan aren't the same team away from home.

I personally think that Saints will choke before the final so I'd take them next weekend.
The possible chance we can play Wigan away again in the play offs for me just shows that the system is flawed, if for instance our last regular season game had been Wigan away in theory we could have played them away 3 times in the space of a month which is just insane.

I think Wigan have a knack of winning in the big crunch games, when it really matters, whereas Saints have been known to bottle it. If we're happy with just getting to the GF, then playing Saints next week might be preferable. In terms of winning the whole thing, I'd rather have Saints in the final. It's too difficult a question to be honest, and ideally we'd beat both of them regardless of which way round!
Hoping for a mass brawl tonight and plenty of suspensions dished out.

Think we are making too much of Saints ‘bottling it’. They are the best side still in and we’ve not beaten them away for donkeys years. I’d prefer Wigan in the hope that we learned from the last game. We will be underdogs either way but we like it that way.

Im hoping for a Saints win tonight. Wigan are nothing special, we matched them in every department last week, we just had a bad 5 minute spell that cost us the game.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Just tuned into Sky and the 1st thing you hear is the annoying Carney, Watson's guest and comes across as incredibly knowledgeable - Though he needs a new jacket top.

Did anyone else hear the Saints fans singing Salford at the Wigan fans? Just hope Wigan don’t have a huge backlash next week after that performance

They will probably turn into world beaters again next week and we need to be ready for it. Saints showed how much a couple of quick play the balls can disrupt their defensive line. We can win this game but it won’t be easy - we need to perform like we did last week but with a little more speed in attack. The Salford fans should be well up for this.
