Yesterday we/I saw the best of Salford as a team and worst of Salford as a fan (though I say that loosely) base.
Outstanding team performance, outstanding commitment in defence, just so much to make us all feel gutted we lost but immense pride in the players.
Was appalled to witness the vitriol I did on the train, a Wigan fan joined in with the 'banter' only for a young Salford lad stand up shouting the odds and threaten to drag him off at the next stop and tw@ him (though I'd have liked to see that as the Wigan guy was a big unit), a lad I'll swear I've never seen at a Salford game mind, then a woman sat near joined in having a go only to be joined by the lady sat next to her to start having a go at Salford fans for not being real fans for not going week in week out (only for her then to sheepishly say I'm not even from Salford under her breath, just utter morons.
Back to the game.
Doubt Wigan will not have had a work out as complete as that for a long while, hats of to them as they defended well, think the obvious tactic of there's was to hammer us in every tackle (which they did and I was impressed at our energy despite this). Think either they nullified Jacko or he had an off day as he seemed quieter than normal. Dudson should have people climbing him he's that much of a man mountain, just an immense performance. Inu, WTF was he thinking, understand it was in the heat of the battle but good God that was suicide. From higher up you really got a sense of the amount of work and cajoling Evalds does, really is more vocal and involved than you get the sense of at Barton. Think sadly we fluffed things a couple of times, pretty sure we over played things close to the line right at the end when we should have just bulldozed over.
Anyone who complains again about how hard it is to get to Barton I'll tell them to go to games at Wigan more often, 1 hell of a shlep especially to make that last train.

Had to do with watching the game on TV in Cornwall.A great credit to all the fans who got to the game. And what a game it was both teams committed and competing they certainly new they had been in a scrap at full time.

Sorry forgot but I'm worried that our kicking game is going backwards, numerous times Wigan caused havoc with a short distance low grubber but we kept putting up a bomb that gave us no hope of challenging, need to work on that for me.

Thought it was better than the last two weeks and think that’s a tad harsh - we had a few drops outs and were pretty close to scoring off another couple of kicks (Bibby and Sio). One of the bombs was knocked on and that led to a try. When the fifth tackle is miles out your options are limited but when they got close I thought they mixed it up well enough although room for improvement especially kicks to the corner that our wingers don’t even seem to bother trying to catch. Also can’t remember Wigan doing much from kicks apart from when Griffin dropped one?

I agree about our kicking game LondonRed. Superb short kicking game that caused Wigan all kinds of problems. The massive kick that Hardaker failed to take and led to a chance. There were a few longer kicks in a row that were a bit too deep so Hardaker couldn’t be pressured taking them but that was when we’d been restricted making metres. Was amazed Wigan didn’t put any grubbers behind our lind on the few occasions they got into our 10. That’s been our Achilles heel all year
I’ve watched it back this morning and we were even better than I thought at the ground. My only criticism is that we were a bit too conservative with the ball. A lot of 5 drives and a kick even in the last 10 minutes. Too much giving Josh Jones on the 4th tackle in their 20/30. And too much crash ball to a prop ion their line. We got that spot on for Grffins try but Walker and Mossop were given it 5-10m too far out. Wigan’s defence too good for that. We nearly scored with our opening set by running it on halfway on the last tackle. Why not move it wide more often. Then a few panicky plays in the last 10
These are quibbles really. Wigan took their chances. We didn’t. We were at least as good as Wigan everywhere on the park except the bit that really mattered. Great effort but we need a bit more than that in play off football.

Interesting comments about Leulai continually being offside from Watto, which is the Wigan way; we always play a bit too fair. He also mentioned the incident with Clough, late tackle as Hastings scored then caught him late with a tackle and slapped him with Hastings not being able to focus for the last few minutes. I'm sure the panel will ban Clough for a couple of matches this week (not)
Just watching the RU, they use the video ref much better. The VR watches and has a word about off the ball incidents and alerts when the in field ref gets it wrong. We had a few incidents where Wigan raked the ball in the tackle and got away with it. One which led to the first try. RL could do much better in this area. Out of a few million watching the ref is the one who can't see some things.

I know what you mean about the union use their video ref JJR but there are a lot more stoppages in RU. I’d rather we accept that there will be an occasional duff call and get on with the game. Loads of times when a fan claims it’s a clear strip another can claim it’s a loose carry. It’s judgement calls a lot of the time and we have to accept that we are not the most impartial of observers as fans
I do think Clubb’s elbow was bad (but nowhere near as bad as our fans’ twitter meltdown are making out) and I do think the VR should intervene on dangerous play like that. I don’t think an 8 point try would have made much difference but a an binning might. The eye injury was not intended and we should have scored while they had 2 players arguing with Hastings and we had a big overlap

Apparently before the 18 year old Smithies broke the SL tackling record with 72, the record holder was Malcolm Alker with 69 in 2010

No ban for Clubb - penalty deemed sufficient (which we didn’t get). Insufficient evidence on the eye business. Tomkins warned for his trip.

I may have missed it but has no-one mentioned yet another bottle throwing incident on Friday? When Jacko scored and he got involved with Clubb 2 bottles came flying down towards the pitch from way back in the Salford end. IIRC Joey Lussick picked one of them up (which barely missed the players) and removed it from the pitch while gesturing to fans to behave.
It's happened on numerous occasions at home and added to the flare incident at Leeds the other week we really need to do something about this as fans. One of these days we're either gonna cop a fine/points deduction for these incidents or someone is going to get seriously injured.
Someone must have been near enough to the perpetrators to know who they are and they need identifying and banning from attending any matches, home or away.

I mentioned it on Twitter but don’t think I did on here- when Hastings scored some idiots started throwing cans. One hit a bloke in front of me and I got drenched. Why these morons think it’s funny or a good idea I don’t know. At Leeds I also got drenched but it was in the heat of the moment from a pint glass and the bloke apologised - a world of difference. I Got into Wigan slightly early and there were already a few leathered and urinating in the street - I thought we’d have some sort of trouble. I’ll be back in the West Stand on Thursday (prefer a side view) so should be away from it all but hope there will be less idiots at home.

Gone woth the same squad, they must be full of confidence and keen to kick on and Jacko's eye must be ok.

I’m just worried that they have named Jacko in the squad to give him as much time as possible to recover. If he cannot see out of one eye, surely he cannot play.
