This is good news for the sport in the UK, there really isn't anything to stop the BBC getting more involved in the sport, what I wouldn't give to ditch Sky and go back to terrestrial TV and the increased market that opens up.

Yeah agreed. Much needed exposure on terrestrial tv is always welcome.
I wouldn't mind if Sky actually showed all the weeks games of RL instead of a couple every week. If they did that, I'd even re-subscribe.

Isn't the commentary on the Beeb better without the Chuckle Brothers from Sky

Dave Woods is a really good commentator and getting better. The BBC commentary as a while has got a lot better since Ray French hung up microphone, Woods manages his summarisers much better and knows when to just ignore Juffy’s more random comments

I love listening to Noble, he might have been a dire coach at Salford but he's been there and done that to the nth degree and his partnership with Andrew Voss a few years ago at the World Cup was as good as I've heard.
Davies sure can be a little annoying but he's well informed and pretty impartial where as the numpties on Sky get names wrong (intentionally at times it seems) are blatantly biased and just dumb.
It's never going to happen but I'd love to see RL back on the BBC, Woods leading the coverage with Noble involved when his Toronto duties allow and Davies too if he can be persuaded to spend enough time in the North.
1 real down side to the BBC coverage is Robbie (I'm a Cuck) Hunter Paul, hearing my own funeral dirge is more appealing than hearing him open his mouth.

Agree Henry Paul, self centred, wanna make money. Not needed. John Kear for me with Davies and Noble. I like Davies because he says it as it is. With Sky I have to turn the sound off when Mcdermott and his fellow clown are on. Talk endlessly but say nothing.

Totally forgot about Kear, he is brilliant I agree, as with Noble he's forgotten more than the Sky morons will ever know.
John Wilkin is always quite eloquent too and you'd think that the more media savvy players have to be that more and more ex players will progress into commentary/pundit work.

I like Wilkin but wish he’d stop trying to over-explain things/squeeze in buzzwords to try and sound intelligent- he really doesn’t need to.
The thing with the BBC is that they are obliged to be balanced and are much more receptive to complaints than Sky. That gets rid of any blatant bias but can mean they can be a bit bland. I’d take bland over Phil Clarke any day of the week though.

Clarke good compared to the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum props. They're dire.

Clarke good compared to the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum props. They're dire. He comes out with utter nonsense though (for example his GB squad selection) and is so biased it is barely believable. He’s paid to objectively analyse the game but doesn’t even bother anymore- says whatever rubbish he wants and still collects his paycheque.

Absolutely, I really hope that the BBC make a play for the Super League TV rights when they're up for renewal in 2021. Rob Elstone should certainly be speaking to them in an attempt to create competition and get a better deal. The coverage on the BBC is so much better than Sky Sports, firstly because you don't have the likes of Terry, Barrie & Stuart Cummins talking like morons or just backing up the officials every time, even when they make a blatant mistake - just be honest Stuart. Secondly, it's a much more professional setup on the BBC with better presenters like Mark Chapman, Tanya Arnold & Dave Woods. With the likes of Robbie Hunter-Paul, Jonathan Davies, Brian Noble & Jon Wilkin all putting in a positive and intelligent input. I also prefer how you can hear the video referee make his decision on the BBC, whereas on Sky you have to listen to S Cummins, who nobody really wants to listen to, or be on the show for that matter. Could you imagine how many people would cancel their subscriptions if Sky Sports were to lose Rugby League to the BBC? I know I would and others would follow suit.

Well for starters I'd buy a TV license and not watch RL on Cricfree.
I wonder if Prime might be worth teeing up?
I know they are not major players but they are getting more and more involved in media and we could do worse than become the first major sport that they embrace, one things for sure you know they would go about things properly.
When you watch Grand Tour compared to Top Gear the production values are outstanding and I'd love to see RL get some investment in new technology (There is a simple way to instantly rule on forward passes, a minute sensor on each ball would eradicate so many contentious issues).

Fair, I know a few people who do the same! If I was Robert Elstone I'd be teeing up conversations with every major broadcaster including some of the newcomers such as Amazon and Facebook. There's so much cash out there to get but I don't think the RFL word hard enough or smart enough to get hold of it. Hopefully they go through a proper tender process, where Super League state what they are looking for in the successful partner(s) and create a bidding war between the TV companies. There's no doubt in my mind that this would be the right approach and not some arbitrary deal done on a whim where they bribe all the clubs with a £300k payment in a few weeks. Our last deal sounded unbelievably dodgy in my opinion and I'm surprised that more questions weren't asked at the time.

I’ve no doubt that he knows his way round the various options. Be warned, though,he can only track what’s out there,he can’t magic a deal out of thin air. I thought the last Sky deal felt like we were bounced into it but I think it might be better than we thought at the time. The new deal will reveal whether it was. These guys,Elstones mob,not the RFL,know what they’re doing but I’ve no idea where it’ll end up,I’m sure it won’t be for lack of expertise
