I thought he already was one of the best halves in SL.
Good read and certainly makes you think that the game this season is going to be less structured and more hot potato.
Need to get either Johnson or Olphearts having a cracker this year as speed out wide will be killer.

That was my first thought too MR but I guess ‘I’m one of the best halves in SL and this year I’m going to be even better’ might come across as a touch arrogant?? 😊
Interesting about what he says about the style of play. I wouldn’t have thought our forwards were natural off loaders but the points about fitness and speed certainly reflect what Watson has said so far and Murray said similar in an interview. All very encouraging and hopefully will lead to an exciting style of play.
I’m sure it will still be very structured given Watson’s style but it feels like he has a set of players he can trust to make the right decisions now with leaders all over the park - Hastings, Lui, flash, mossop, junior, McCarthy, lussick, evalds, Wood, JJ - so maybe we will see more off the cuff and in the moment decision making than we have before?

The last person to go with a lightweight ‘top of the pitch’ pack was Karl Harrison who hasn’t been seen since Perpignan. In fairness to him,it wasn’t on the back of rule changes, just a wrong judgment call, anticipating hard pitches.

An excellent check to the unbridled positivity that is taking control 😊 It’s a fair pont. There’s definitely a risk here and I would rather have another big prop in there. I’m not sure we’re at the incredible shrinking pack of days gone by. Although Was Harrison’s pack all that small - haggerty, korkidas, coley, Highton, Brocklehurst were all there the year he was relegated (plus some small ones like Gower and Edmondson and mid size like Nash, Wainwright, Brocklehurst). Also is our pack that much smaller this year? Murray is lighter but he was carrying a bit to be fair. Burke, Ben, moose, Jones all look similar size. We’ve lost numbers but have we lost size?

Lost Tasi - gained Walker Lost Burgess - gained Dudson Lost Kopczak - gained Burke Plus more game time for Murray and Ben. Overall have lost a bit of size but would argue gained mobility.

Those 3 though were the cornerstone of the pack and in Koppy the go to guy every game he played to make the hardest yards.
Pie in the sky I know but I'd love another big lump to throw on the bench.

Luke Douglas looks to be on the outer at Saints as he's gone to Leigh on loan for a month, I'd take him to add the size and grunt we all seem to agree we're missing.

On a slightly related note - Lawton is now cleared to play.

That's good, him and Walker add some beef.

Think it's a bit far fetched to even suggest that Burgess and Taxi were cornerstones to the pack!
Burgess spent most of the season injured, tasi came off the bench put in a few runs a few tackles and more importantly a few penalties.
Koppy will be missed but didn't feature in the coaches plans hence why he was let go, plus got a few coffers in the pot from Michael Carter

Lost Hauraki Tasi Koppy Burgess: ageing players and Lannon
Gained Turgit Walker Burke Lawton Dudson: younger more energetic players
Lannon/ Tasi really the only loss as Koppy/ Burgess didn't play that much, Hauraki has lost it
Probably good business assuming Walker and Lawton can get up to speed quickly. Can't understand Sheens giving Hauraki a 2 year deal, he can't do a full match, probably harder now the new rules are in and was poor with Widnes.

On the other hand......... We know what the other players gave us. Impact. The new ones are obviously untried. Burgess,Tasi,Koppy gave us size, strength. Lannon is much improved. The key will be Walker and Lawton, for me. Burke is a good pro, lacking size. We’ll see with Turgit. Looks the part

I am a little concerned about Kevin Brown being injured for the season, given Warrington's history for poaching our better players. One thing calming me a little is the fact that Widdop joining them next season so any replacement would have to be a short term fix. Wonder if Sandow could be returning to Wire?

Think Patton will step up, only way I see us selling one of our better players is if we all stop attending, if that's the case then it's our last hurrah anyway.
