Seems the RFL are going to show some Championship play off games and ALL Toronto games throughout the season, can't see this as anything but a heavy bias towards Toronto as surely this deal must benefit them financially and potentially put fans of travelling to Canada to watch their teams live.
All smacks of the RFL wanting Toronto to come up this season.

Nothing new there then...
No doubt all at the helm were gutted when they couldn't pull it off last season.

It’s Sky not the RFL and its Toronto home games only. I assume they sold them off cheap after their last tv deal fell through. It means at least one lower league game on Sky per week - the additional exposure can’t be a bad thing?

Toronto gets to sell pitch side advertising with the promise of international exposure, they (you would think) get TV income rights, you would think that all this would increase Torontos income.
Sorry but if you can't see how this gives Toronto an even greater advantage over the other teams on the Championship you're nieve.

I never mentioned the advantage to them of the deal - of course I can see it but as they are based half way around the world they need this type of exposure in order to be successful. I’d expect the deal to change if they made it to Super League. Unless we switch to a socialist NFL style system, where income/deals/sponsorship/merchandise are shared equally, there will always be teams with an ‘advantage’. They are just playing the system and I can’t blame them for that.

Oh I don't blame them, I blame the governing body for allowing such a blatant advantage one team over all the rest.

Didn't a SL team enquire about doing something similar to this a couple of seasons back and it got rejected?

I’m not so sure it’s as blatant as all that - obviously a lot is riding on them being successful, and it’s a difficult position they are in, so I can understand why they are being given more room to manoeuvre. Catalans were given similar examptions when they first started out.
I’ll have a problem with it if these exemptions continue in the long term - I’d expect a level playing field from next year should they get promoted as they’d have a fairly established team and plenty of televised games. I’d also expect a Canadian channel to pick up their home games again at that point.

Surely this extra coverage is good news for the game.

Again think my point is missed.
But I agree it will help with the games exposure, but I maintain it gives one team a financial advantage over the rest with the governing bodies approval.

I think all Catalan games are aired on TV as well as they have been for a few years.Just the normal double standards. Castleford on Sky a large no of times Salford 3 I think and we'll have local derbys, presumably some of theirs will be across the border. Needs sorting as for example Salford v Hull say on a Thursday, not much effect on our gates but Salford v Wigan does. But the Sky deal coming up again and the man who eat all the pies not at the helm, so we'll hold our breath yet again.

But then they should be in SL then and the only reason they're not is the moaners said they should start at the bottom and then complained how unfair it all was/is/will be.
Anyway God forbid we should see TWP as a way of getting a good deal out of Sky or breaking out of the M62!
This is not a go at anyone who doesn't want TWP around it's frustration at a sport that seems determined to be minute or dead in the water which ever comes first.

I agree with Russ. More RL TV exposure is a good thing. More professional teams in more countries is a good thing
Toronto is entirely self-funded. They do not receive any money from the RFL and do not receive any money from existing TV deals. They have to pay to be in the challenge cup. They travel between Canada and the uk several times a year at their own expense. They have paid for English teams to do travel over. How are they getting an advantage from this?
RL fans are the most blinkered people in the world. Toronto have started at the bottom and worked their way up. No whinging about the format and missing out. Magnanimous in their praise for London. Everyone who has been on the trip to Toronto talk about how good it is. It’s not perfect and there are plenty of issues with international leagues but the idea they are being given advantages is just nonsense

Catalan Games home games are shown on tv in the UK And France Mainland Europe- North Africa, Because the SKY TV Deal Only covers Games Broadcast in the British isles. There allowed to Negotiate there own deal for home games as France isn't in the British isles !!. And good on Catalan & BEIN Sport for showing RL In other Regions.
