Said it before, I'll say it again get a good commercial director in who knows sport inside out, doesn't have to be RL but knows how to run a successful sports franchise and market the f*%king thing. An owner (who knows next to nothing about the sport) shouldn't be running the club.

There always seems to be no end of people (myself included) who say what is wrong but very few people ever say what in their opinion can help. One of the most obvious is the lack of marketing from the club. I've mentioned this before over the years but we are fortunate enough to have one of the biggest universities in Europe right on our door step, surely it is worth the club approaching the powers that be and seeing if they can get some of the students involved on the marketing side of things. Give them a budget and see what they can do, benefits for the students are the experience, the chance to have working as an intern for a professional (stop laughing at the back) sports team, possible further employment with the club after studies finished and with the Docs other interests wouldn't hurt to get themselves noticed and possibly poached. Benefits to the club are the chance to get new different ideas and the possibility of unearthing new fan streams. I've often thought that the club could with very little outlay reach thousands (if not 10s of thousands of people per week), two options really the simplest but possibly least effective is a sign at the doors of all the large Supermarkets in the area, we have 3 large Tesco (Salford, Walkden & Irlam), ASDA Trafford Park, 2 Morrisons (Eccles & Swinton), approach a local sign manufacturer (M&A Brown are based locally in Worsley) and offer a years free add in the program in exchange and have details of the next game and specific offer codes for each store to see where the most interest lies. For me the biggest chance would be if you could find a way to get a large screen TV & sign at the entrance of each store with details of the next game/tickets ECT and have action from games to catch kids interest. Gets players down from time to time and Dr Devil for the kids. Neither would cost a fortune in the grand scheme of things and you'd like to think that local retailers would be supportive of the local sports team. Sure I'll be dissected but both options have very little outlay from the club and can only help get those much needed bums on seats.

How many primary schools are there in Salford? After a very quick look it seem as though there is about 80. I would make it my personal mission to ensure over the course of a season every single primary school in Salford attended a game.
Open the East Stand, give each primary school a block (300 seats?), banners above each block (WELCOME ST MARKS PRIMARY SCHOOL), charge the school £1 to 2 per child (they'll pass this onto the parents anyway - will cover expenses of transport etc), have face painters in each block (I'm not talking work of arts, but simply RED DEVILS written on their faces etc), give each kid a goodie bag as they enter (posters, Dr Devil masks, voucher for next home game where child is free with discounted adult admission of £10), invite all the children from each primary school onto the pitch at half-time, give each one of them a red/black balloon and get them to release them etc.
That's just ONE idea.

Preaching to the converted there JGR, get into a kids psyche at an early age and you have the next generation of fan. Exactly MR.
In addition to the primary school idea, we should then follow this up with setting up a Family Stand. Whether this be a block of seats in the East or West dedicated to supporters with children. Again provide cheap but enjoyable entertainment, face painters, have games going on under the concourse pre game and at half time, do something to encourage children to a) want to attend, b) enjoy it when they do (regardless of what happens on the pitch) and c) want to return.
One aspect I like the idea of a fan owned club is the enthusiasm we have to drive ideas like this.
The better relationships we build with schools the better. You could use them for ticket sales, give the school a cut of all earnings made etc. You'd soon see them driving sales to generate as much income as they could on a weekly basis.

A perfect example of how the club just misses out doing things right is that the 19 man squad was announced 24hrs ago but it's still not on the official site, the little things like that would take seconds but would offer an air of professionalism.

I'm assuming most on here are ST holders like myself. I've always believed that we are the best marketing team the club could every have, we have the passion and hopefully the pitch to get people interested.
Unfortunately this falls down when I mention the price, £25 is just too much for a person who isn't really interested in the game yet. If the club would allow us holders to bring people to the game for a discounted price (say £19 for the psychological "under 20 quid" barrier) 2 or 3 times a season I really feel that this could pay dividends in the long run. I understand this is a business, and yes I'm sure some people might abuse it, but it concerns me that the potential for new fans is being killed by the fear of abuse of the system.
I know its the age old money argument but i think the club really needs to think about taking the hit now for benefits in the future.

Completely agree, they need to scrap the £25 inflated match day ticket prices. I've invited so many of my friends to games this season only for them to turnaround and say "I'm not paying £25 to go and watch Salford". Personally I believe a flat £20-21 ticket is what's needed. They should also give out a half price vouchers to season ticket holders to bring a friends to a smaller game against the likes of Wakefield, Huddersfield and Catalan, a game where we don't usually draw a decent crowd.
I completed agree with John Gilbert Red, we should be inviting every Primary School/ High School to the games once a season, I like how they've put a signed shirt up in every Salford HS PE Department now. Exposure like that is what we really need. They used to do it back at the Willows above the away fans and it worked incredibly well, I remember one pre season game against Swinton we drew a very respectable crowd. It's amazing what marketing can do when you've got the right people involved, I don't think people at the club really understand this but you can get good sales people in who will pay their own wages by business they will bring into the club.
Please Marwan or people down at the club if you are reading this, go out there an find someone who going to have a real crack at marketing our club, someone who will bring the fans through the gates and business to this club through sponsorship opportunities, with Tim Sheens at the helm we stand a real chance of having a quality season next year. The players deserve more support than they are currently getting.
