This is embarassing! I know its all well intentioned but really this is amateur level club financing. In the past we have had unheralded benefactors who have thrown in that level of money to fund one player. The Club is now expecting fans, who are loyal but in all honesty arguably overcharged for what is being delivered on the field,to give more on what could be folly anyway. The other thing is its short term and unrepeatable and too short a time to raise the figure. What will £20000 get us should also be asked. I have said it before cap in hand back to Marwan or forget it.

Whilst this isn’t good, there is no point denying the situation we are in. What are the board supposed to do, damned if they do damned if they don’t. People complain they aren’t doing anything, yet everything they do is ridiculed.
I’ve no idea what 20k will get, perhaps they have some money but need to top up to get the player they/Watson wants. At least we aren’t going over salary cap.
Whether you put in or not is up to you, I don’t think anyone should be expected to by any means, but if you can and want to then why not.

It's not the idea that bothers me. What bothers me is the way that this announcement was deliberately hyped on social media beyond what was required. Hyping-up a desperate plea for cash shows that the people behind the scenes are not really thinking things through. The second thing that bothers me is the awful timing. The money is supposed to be for funding the squad, yet the transfer deadline is Friday. What is the money for?
If the club wanted to enthuse the badly battered fanbase, they could have started by actually hyping-up the arrival of a quality Australian HB in Hastings. You know, interview, pictures, touting for player sponsorship. Give the suffering fans something to be cheerful about for a change. Instead, he slips in the backdoor and they post a picture of the back of his head. Unbelievable.

He arrived Monday. Maybe the interviews are in hand and will include pictures, video etc. Done properly rather than rushed. Surely we should be applauding a cash strapped board, and MK, for competing successfully for his signing rather than bemoaning the lack of fanfare. The fans knew and were excited by his arrival anyway. As has been said elsewhere,Andy Rosler has said he would welcome more fan involvement by contacting him, provided they have something to bring to the table. Put it another way, where would we be if Rosler walked ? They’re all busting a gut in trying circumstances .

Better than the unmitigating gloom that’s projected ?

The only thing that's embarrassing about this is the predictable negative reactions from most of our fanbase.

It's the timing and the way it's been touted that's all wrong. Why not, at the start of the season say 'this is what some other clubs do, we're going it give it a go' rather than guilt trip fans, again.
It's as if we are being held to ransom again, last season it was turn up or accept a name change.(OK name change didn't happen but the club got (sold) transferred) now its cough up or we cant buy anyone.
Do we take it from this that MCB or any other strengthening of the squad wont happen at all.

The only thing that's embarrassing about this is the predictable negative reactions from most of our fanbase. If you look at peoples concerns they are more than valid. I have not seen one person who has been negative not have a valid point. Nobody is saying it's a bad idea, or not worth trying. Not a single person.
I see nothing wrong with the idea, just the awful timing and atrocious way the club thought it would hype-up a non-event on social media. The club is ignoring the obvious and easy things that should be in place. Things like engaging the fans more often on social media. Being receptive to questions and queries. Putting out video and media on things behind the scenes going well. Interviews and interest pieces on the players. Engaging the community more proactively and more importantly showing us what they're doing no matter how mundane. The only thing the club seems to promote is anything to do with getting more money in, which is fine, but people would be more receptive to this if they felt more engaged with the positives around the club and community. Where has Blease's presence on social media gone? What are the people behind the scenes doing to keep us informed? The club is rudderless and introverted.
My point about Hastings is a perfect example. Maybe they are going to do something, but they're missing a trick by not having it in place for when he arrived. It would give people a positive and get them enthused for his debut.
I am very negative at the moment, as the club is basically failing on nearly all levels with the fans at the moment. I am, however, not negative for the sake of it and will praise when and where it is due. If you think that those criticizing the club are an embarrassment, I'd suggest taking a long hard look at yourself.

It's not having ago.But we should have had this going at the beginning of the season.Wilkinson's tenure at times was ridiculed for being amateurish years on we are know better. And we have been run in that time by someone who could plat saw dust,or so he thought .What is 20.000 going to do in four days.Their was an old adage we might be no good, but always look the part.

Carnster, there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism. You make some good points. It's the usual hysterical reactions on social media that I was on about. Apparently we're a laughing stock, people are never going to watch us again and mocked up images of the club crest, all because the club have asked the fans for the equivalent of £10 each to sign a new player.
Regarding the timing, despite regular updates about the clubs situation from Rosler on the club website anything they've tried so far has flopped, so they probably see this as a last resort before the deadline kicks in.
Regarding the community stuff, they've offered all community groups 50% of any ticket sales that the sell, and offered 1000 free junior season tickets to local junior clubs. Probably many other things I've forgot as well.
The also have regular highlights and coach/player interviews on the clubs YouTube channel.
Most of this seems to get ignored though.

Anyway as I know you like to keep things on topic, it's currently on £2135.

Think there is good potential for signing an Oz hooker of good level to supplement our one hooker left (2 injured) and a chance for a back who was once here.
The most positive thing to do is to support it and not discuss it to death. Friday may come at this rate and many pages written but no hooker

I've kept away from social media since the announcement as I was feeling particularly frustrated yesterday. However, it is what it is and it's up to individual fans to determine whether they want to contribute or not.
Lessons to be learnt? Most definitely. It should have been announced much earlier.
Could the message have been delivered differently? I'd say yes, but finding the balance between keeping the message positive and sounding desperate is somewhat tricky.
Do we need more transparency from the Club about our financial problems? Undoubtedly yes.
I do worry that if we fall short of our £20k target by a distance, it could backfire and look like a PR disaster. I'll be chipping in with a few quid on pay day but like most Salford fans I don't have much money to chuck at this.
Fingers crossed for a positive outcome on Friday and that we get some new players arriving in time for the Middle 8s.
