Please can anyone tell me what Burke did wrong tonight. Yes he is carrying a bit of excess baggage but looking at most of the Widnes team they all appeared to be like that so maybe their conditioning coach (if they have one) is to blame. Besides we had Baines on our team once and he was a big lad 😀 Also BMM was also on the hefty side as well as Junior only a short time ago. Instead of taking the piss just support the players. On that note JLJ still got stick tonight when I thought he was MOM. Some Salford fans just bemuse me

Whoever wrote his Wikipedia en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Burke_(rugby_league) seems to think he has a "Reloading" issue. Never seen him play in the flesh before. Read the Widnes fans forum and they seem to think he's a Bit unfit and eating the wrong foods. Please can anyone tell me what Burke did wrong tonight. He was ok - solid but not as effective as others in the pack Not sure about that. I thought Koppy was the stand out forward in terms of driving. Tasi and Ben had some eye catching big drives but both made mistakes and gave penalties away. Lannon did well. McCarthy got injured. Griffin was ok. I think Burke was as good as anyone except Koppy overall. One mistake, decent driving and tackling, looking for work all the time and a try. Not bad for a debut. And I think he has a look of Steve Herbert about him which can only be a good thing i accept it was at home against the bottom team and ge should have been up for it given it was against the team he left last week so let’s see how he goes from here after a promising start

Greetings Salford. Just thought i would pop on after reading a few of the comments. Just want to put you right on a few things. I am a family friend of Burke, mods can confirm i dont bear the same name etc. Anyway i am pretty astonished he has got some abuse after a very solid debut for you guys last night. Let me tell you first about his weight. Last season he was carrying a bad injury all season, Betts made him play through it, he went to the medical officer and complained that he couldnt play because he wasn't fit but Betts continued to play him anyway so his fitness declined theoughout the season, He also had a new born baby last year at the same time and i am sure as many of you know that is a gruelling time for sleep etc. He got dogs abuse from the Widnes fans on their board, but that is because they hate everything Wigan. Horrible bunch of toe rags. Greg was offered a new deal at Widnes but he wanted to sign for Salford. So you have a player who wants to be at your club, when he gets back to fitness...and he will.... ylthen you have a very good forward who can pass, tackle, offload, hit good lines and drive in the yards. You need to get behind him though, a moderator who thinks it is funny to call him a fat bastard is pretty repulsive to be honest. His weight has got sod all to do with his diet. Good luck for the rest of the season. I will be cheering you on from now on apart from when you dont play the Warriors of course.

The aforementioned Baynes was constantly given grief about his ‘ample size’ but was a well loved player at the same time (still one of my favourites)

I thought Burke was pretty good last night. Got through his fair share of work. What i liked most about him however was unlike the majority of our pack (Specifically our Front rowers) he seems to be able to pass. More than once he was involved in the line and through some smart passes when we started to go wide. Weve got our share of decent battering rams, will be nice to see a rugby player as well sometimes. Good stuff.

Great post, for what it is worth I was surprised how well he played last night. I thought he put in an excellent stint & clearly wanted to impress. Cannot have done himself any harm with the fans scoring on his debut. well done Greg & welcome on board.

The good part about this is that he actually wanted to come to Salford, unlike some other targets who knowing our off the field circumstances have avoided us like the plague. If he gives his all for us I'm sure I speak for most that he'll get the fans backing 100%

Good on yer. As a side issue too, you also get about 10 more fans who turn up when Wigan aren't playing. There were some newbies there last night. As i was saying though, he will get his fitness back and you will see how good he really is. He is a loose forward really. His passing ability draws the opposition line in very well. Its like having a 3rd half in the first phases of the attack. I was impressed with the reception he got when he had to come off towards the end . You actually thought you had lost a better player in Hauraki, you really haven't. You have a young lad who will learn so much off the likes of the irreplacable Kopczak (a player i want at Wigan) Like Coley, goes un-noticed in the media but a hell of a player. He can only get better. Hope Gleeson and co can nurture his game more. Needs a good un-injured pre-season behind him and you will reap the rewards. Look at his condition from when he was with Wigan to when he went to Widnes. That tells you something of how they train their players. If you don't make it above 8th it certainly bodes well for the middle 8s. With bodies to come back i dont see any danger of you finishng above the likes of Toulouse and Widnes. It's a huge season for Super League with the recent announcement but..... i could see it being a 14 team league next year anyway to be honest
