Anyone else think that the rule changes/tweaks this year are becoming a bit of a joke? The obstruction and offside at the play the ball rules are getting ridiculous.
On obstruction: it’s mostly only ever video refs who are giving these decisions and definitely only when teams are within 10 of the opposition try line. Unless they are consistently given then it’s a joke. Lets go back to the good old days when obstruct penalties were only given when a defender is actually obstructed. Cats have been robbed here.
On these daft play the ball penalties: surely it has to go the other way and if an attacker steps over the defender then it’s a penalty to the defence? It is being gamed so much that it is also becoming a joke. And why is if given as offside and not interference? Giving an extra ten yards just makes it worse.
Rant over!

The PTB penalties are getting a joke we need to copy the NRL in actually decreasing the amount of penalties awarded so it stops players from playing for it

That would be my preference. Can you change rules mid season because it is getting daft?

Yes it's good to hear Oz refs telling players to just get on with it. When the attackers realise in the end they are slowing the play down and effectively penalising themselves they'll change. My rant is that in our game , as opposed to NRL, most penalties come from fiddling round the ptb but refs miss offsides and forward passes. Child's always wins 1st Prize in these categories...Mind you in Oz, two refs definitely helps. Amazing how much more professional the Oz games is...refs, commentary..even drug taking!

I'm sick of the abuse of the shot clock, last night multiple times when a scrum was formed the ref blew and stopped the ticker for no reason at all.
I think overall the referees are to picky (especially at the PTB) and unlike in the NRL they seem to want to be the star of the show. The sad fact is we don't have enough decent refs for a one man system never mind 2 ALA the NRL.

The Ref last night was a Championship Referee I believe. As far as I know they do not have it in that league? Or do they. 🤓

The NRL doesn't allow a punch to be thrown while over here we do. Some SL games use video technology where as others don't. The NRL has 2 refs while Northern Hemisphere RL doesn't. The NRL uses the shot clock for drop outs, the Northern Hemisphere doesn't. We have a shot clock in SL where there's none in the lower leagues.
Sure there are more, it just does make our sport look crazy.

So The NRL Don't allow Punches to be thrown. I wonder how John Bateman at Canberra is doing down there at the moment !!

I don't think we should hold the NRL up as a model the total number of wrestles where the defence is given a free given a free reign is huge!

The Canberra game again should be an example. Can't recall how many times the ball was player at the opposites team player still in the ruck and the referee using common sense. Not that hard surely?
